Suggestions for a new vaper in need of more

Just a quick update on my experience with the Innokin Kroma-A with Zenith Tank. Just to recap, was using the T18E for over a month or so which got me off around 20-30 fags a day, so as far as that little vape was concerned it did exactly what it was meant to do, so don't want to take anything away from that vape, but the new kit, for me, is head and shoulders above the T18E as far as ongoing vape experiences are concerned. I started with the 1.6ohm coil, great flavour, and great experience, no spitting, spilling, or anything like those little annoyances I had previously with the T18E. Was keen to try the 0.5ohm plexus coil so after a day of vaping using the 1.6ohm, swapped it for the 0.5ohm. Vaped that most of the weekend and early this morning switched back to the 1.6ohm Kanthal and the drop in satisfaction was noticeable straight away. I messed with the wattage as well as the air flow, even restricting the air flow to almost zero, just couldn't get the same level of satisfaction from the 1.6 Kanthal, but stuck with it all morning and just now I've put the 0.5 plexus back in and ahhhhhhhhhh !!! Back to satisfaction street!. I can't claim to be anything other than a novice when it comes to vaping, but I know the experiences I've had so far have been from "it works" to "ahhhhhhhh" and the plexus is definitely "ahhhh".

With the Kanthal 1.6ohm, the recommended wattage is 10W but I found today that I was down as low as 8W and as high as 12-13W just to try and get a feel for what would work but still wasn't really getting what I wanted from it. Previously, I was at 15W with the 0.5ohm Plexus which was hitting the mark (recommended 15-17W) and as soon as the Plexus coil was back in I was instantly vaping with satisfaction at 15W once again. For me, the 0.5ohm Plexus gives incredible flavour over the 1.6ohm and I've purposely been pushing the coil with spurts of chain vaping, and I've had the coil in since Friday and to be honest, the flavour just seems to be getting better, as opposed to previous experiences with the T18 which would start burning.

The plexus seems to me to be a sturdy wee coil, capable of being mistreated by a relative novice in regards to pushing the wattage initially, and levelling out nicely to give consistent, full flavoured performance. I've also had a few liquids in the tank since getting the new kit, all 6mg 50/50 and it's just ridiculous how nice it continues to taste. Even with the T18, some of the juices didn't seem to mix well.

As for direct to lung, given it is primarily a MTL tank, it's probably no surprise it didn't excite my son or son-in-law who are both DTL vapers, they both agree it was surprisingly pleasant, but wouldn't live with it any time soon, but they are a great deal more experienced in DTL than myself.

So I guess the conclusion I'm coming to here is, firstly, the Kroma-A with Zenith tank is a fantastic little kit, probably more suited to the intermediate vaper like myself, especially having came off the fags, the air restriction can be adjusted to those who can suck a golf ball through a hose pipe whilst opening it right up would be a good start for anyone looking to give DTL a shot before making the leap to another, more suitable tank/setup, and it certainly was enough to satisfy my wife than DTL wasn't what she was thinking it would be!.

Hope this novice review helps others find a more suitable and satisfying experience and if I can answer any questions about the new kit or the coils, I'll certainly do my best but for me the only unanswered question is just how long will the plexus coil last, as it's claimed it will last longer than a normal coil, but only time will tell - will obviously report back as and when I feel I've had the best from the coil but so far it's 2+ days, and counting, and only getting better in taste and experience! :)
Marko

Thats great Marko. Am really pleased for you. And you've already given something back from your experience. May have to give those Plexus coils a go myself.

Thanks rew, it's been great having you guys giving feedback and suggestions, without such I probably wouldn't have been able to make the leap to what I have now, hopefully I'll have even better news about the longevity of these plexus coils in the coming week :)

Thanks for your feedback. Looking forward to more updates. :)

Hey Marko, great update mate, really enjoyed reading that one.

I did follow your link the other day and I have the plexus coils winging there way to me, fingers crossed they will be here by Tuesday. And whilst coils, juice, taste and flavour are subjective after reading your review I’m really looking forward to trying the plexus coil now.

I use the 0.8 coil as opposed the 1.6 but I’m still hoping to see a difference for the better.

Question for you (and it could be a tough one) if you had to rate both the coils out of 10 what mark would you give each one ? (This may give me and others a better idea of the size of the difference between the two)

Hi Welsh Exile, thanks for the positive note and hoping you find the plexus as enjoyable as I am :)

TBH, right now I'd say 10/10 for the plexus and probably around 7/10 for the Kanthal. However, I got the kit on Thursday with the Kanthal coil pre-installed and at that point I'd have rated the Kanthal 10/10 because the difference between that and the T18E I had been using was immense, but it's only after a few days of vaping the plexus and having went back to the kanthal this morning that I can taste and experience the difference between the two.

From past experience from the T18E coils, if I get even 1 week from a plexus coil I'd give them 11/10 :)

Well I received the 0.5 coils on Monday when I returned home from work.

So here is my take on both the tank and the coils.

Aesthetically I think it’s a bit of a marmite tank, you either like it or you don’t, I liked it.

Practically it’s up there with the best, I really like both the top fill and the air flow adjustments, but I especially like the way the coil presses in at the bottom enabling you to change a coil without the loss of any juice.

Now for the coils, the 1.6 is ok and gives off good vapour for a MTL, but the flavour I found a little muted, so I shall give this coil a 5 out of 10. (Sounds harsh but as we all know flavour is subjective]

The 0.8 coil I’m afraid was similar to the above just slightly less muted, I also found these tended to hurt my chest a little ? Not sure if this was due to them being a sub ohm coil as this was the first time vaping for a period of time on a sub ohm coil. Again vapour producion for MTL was excellent but the flavour just wasn’t there for me so this coil I will give a 6 out of 10 as it was an improvement over the 1.6

The 0.5 mesh coil does have better flavour and all the pros of the other coils however it’s still not what I was expecting and definitely not as good as my normal set up. So this coil I will have to give a 7 out of 10.

Overall whilst I do like the tank especially the practicality of it I felt the flavour just wasn’t there for me when comparing against my normal set up, gutted as I so really really wanted this set up to become my only bit of kit.

Overall I give it a 7 out of 10 as an experienced MTL vaper, and probably an 8 out of 10 for a newbie vaper due to the practicality.

Again let me point out that I realise flavour is subjective and what I get a taste from others may not and vice a versa.

Juices used, Mamabush 50/50, Dr Fogs Ice Cream 70/30 VG/PG

Usual set up is an Aspire Nautilus X with the 1.8 kanthal coils and the 4ml expansion kit (please note that in my opinion the 4ml expansion kit totally transforms this tank for me when it comes to flavour using the 1.8 coil) of which I give the tank and coil an overall rating of 9 out of 10, the point is dropped for the practicality of the tank, whilst it’s easy to fill, clean etc it’s just not as practical as the zenith, however flavour for me is a must over practicality otherwise the overall scores would be reversed. (that’s not to say the x isn’t practical as up until now I have found it easy to live with)

Whilst writing this I have gone back to the nautilus X and I can only describe it as that feeling you get of satisfaction mixed with a big ahh as you get home and sit down after a long stressful day at work.

I'm gutted for you mate, I really did hope you would have had a better experience than you did with the tank/coils :(
I have since swapped out the 0.5 for the 1.6 again and still vaping no problems, the 0.5 is now a week old and still finding it great for flavour/experience and I'd agree the sub coil does tend to give a little more flavour but it does also tend to smack hell out the battery, using the 1.6 coil again at the moment just to try and get a better comparison over the two but so far my experience has been totally positive but then again I did come from a T18E so I guess the Kroma/Zenith is a much better bit of kit whereas your existing setup was probably already on par with my new kit anyway - still disappointed for you though, but hey, nothing ventured and all that :)

Well after some weeks of vaping the Kroma with the Zenith tank and plexus coils I've found both the tank and the coils to be very worthwhile. All of the coils used, 0.5, 1.6, plexus z and replacement kanthal coils have stood up to my vaping style, which I'd probably call "aggressive" lol, and on average I would conclude I've had well over a week from each which is a vast improvement over the 2-3 days from the T18E coils previously used. Having had time to compare them all, I'd still say the 0.5 plexus z coil has the edge over flavour and experience but the kanthal has now went up in my estimations too, probably more so because of its longevity on the battery life more than anything but it does still give a fantastic flavour compared to the other vapes I've tried but the 0.5 plexus z is still my favourite. Having said that, and having now had time to compare longevity of all the coils, the kanthals, in my opinion, lasted just as long as the plexus z and all seemed to lose flavour and need replaced after around a week and a half.

So in conclusion, if you don't mind using more battery power, the 0.5 plexus z seems best for flavour, but if battery life is important to you, the vape from the 1.6 replacement kanthal coils are equally as satisfying but the battery will last a lot longer. The difference in battery life for me was, 0.5 from full charge in the morning would require charging come tea time, the 1.6 coil would last all day no problems.

Thanks again to everyone who chipped in on this thread, I've definitely found the kit that works for me and hope my experiences help others :)

Interesting thread for me as I’ve been using the Zenith since I started vaping 4 months ago. I used the 0.8 coil as I preferred it to the 1.6. Got the plexus z as soon as it came out, tried 3 coils all of which tasted bad/burnt despite proper priming and patience bedding in, checked code and they were genuine so decided I had a bad batch and risked buying more from another vendor. The next batch were fine, however...

I have 2 zenith tanks so have been using the 0.5 in one and 0.8 in the other. For me the plexus 0.5 is a big let down in as much as the flavour difference is negligible and they don’t last any longer than the 0.8, i’ve seen various claims by Innokin that they last 2/3 times longer. I’m not a heavy user or chain vapour but I do push them to their highest recommended wattage but not higher than their limit, they last me around a week before flavour drops off. Despite this, and having naff all to compare it to, I still think the zenith is a great user friendly tank

For me, and having came from the T18E, I don't think it's surprising that I've found the Zenith tanks/coils to be far superior, but I definitely concur that Innokin's claims that the coils last 2/3 times longer is a bit of an exaggeration if talking about similar coils in their class, but as you say, it's an easy tank to get used to very quickly, and for me a great bit of kit to move up to :)
