Hi all,

Just thought id share.

I have Crohns disease for those of you who dont know what this is, it is a inflammatory bowel disorder (auto-immune disease).
Now this is a life long problem and I am on drugs to control this, but as of late the drugs are getting less effective. This has been getting noticeably apparent over the last 3-4 months

The docs always told me to give up smoking well as some of you know and those who dont well I have totally and now am vaping only and have been since starting vaping. So thats one box ticked.

Now in the 36 days I have been vaping I have already seen my symptoms improve to the extent that the drugs are now managing the situation again.

I have also seen other improvements which everyone is likely to notice like more breath no coughing etc etc

So for me this is one huge box ticked not only am I not climbing the walls or indeed on edge but I have significant changes in my body over and above what people typically expect..............

That is fantastic news SouthernVaper and I do hope the improvement continues with yourself, I know how painful and debilitating crohns disease can be. Another personal testimony from an ex smoker. My part was I had chronic asthma when I smoked using a puffer sometimes 10+ times a day, since shortly after taking up vaping have had no attacks and the constant wheezing I had no longer exists. I think it is an interesting fact that tobacco has a lot to answer to for exacerbating existing conditions and causing others.

That's great news. I have a similar condition, they do think Crohn's at one point but it's not, so I'm hoping that staying off the fags will help it. 27 days and counting

I too suffer from crohns, it's grim isn't it.
good news that vaping has made a great improvement to your condition. Ironically, it's been proven that smoking helps lessen the effects of ulcerative colitis, not sure why.

i haven't had many problems with it of late thankfully, I think the pile of pentasa I take daily keep it in check.

out of interest, do any of your family suffer with it or ulcerative colitis? My dad has UC (which he suffers terribly with) and the gastro docs always say they are unsure if its genetic or not.

My mum has IBS as does my sister my son of 7 is already suffering with stomach problems.
I have subtle signs of colitis but nothing major at all.

Crohns is very grim and took me almost 2.5 years to have a diagnoses all the while my symptoms were worsening, ended up blue lighted twice and with a major stomach op and a section removed.

Crohns is 100% a genetic problem, I also have arthritis in the lumber area again something you can get as a sideline.

I am actually on Humira for arthritis but this drug has also sorted my stomach it is a anti T&F drug which is basically the opposite of what ya body does so kind of mops up as it were. I take nothing else (apart from my e juice lol).
If you start suffering bad these drugs are what to push for but you do have to qualify for them. I tried alsorts before being able to have it as it is very expensive £12k a year

Sounds like you've had it really bad, hopefully without the ciggies you'll continue to get better, but I guess it's a slow process.
ive only been hospitalised with it once for a week as I was in a very bad way, I was dreading that they would operate, but thankfully it didn't come to that.
interestingly I had to have an emergency spinal discectomy a few years back, you mentioning lumbar problems makes me wonder if the 2 were connected.

i don't think pentasa does anything for me either, as it doesn't stop the flare ups, but I was told that it lessens the chance of bowel cancer. I have a supply of steroids for when its bad, but I try not to take them if I can help it as they mess me up.

wow £12K per year medication, I can imagine they make it very hard to qualify for those!

Feel for you mate. I've had severe IBS for years (as have most of my family). It's debilitating.
Hoping my son doesn't develop it, made sure I mated with someone who has a cast iron constitution so hopefully his mothers genes will see him alright.

TBH I opted for the surgery as at the time I was in a very bad place where I was taking steriods solid for a year at high doses as when I weaned off of them id have a flair up, I was at my wits end and although there were risks I could not go on as was. When I was on steriods for a prolonged period the side effects mood swings etc got worse and worse. I was also on slow release tramadol to the max I could take and still function day to day, these took me a year to get off of and had to go cold turkey whilst away working (basically didnt take them with me).

They told me I should take pentasa as they might help but after 4 mths and them doing nothing I stopped and the doc still said I should but I explained they did nothing and I have side effects so I will not be taking them.

Arthritis like Crohns is a auto-immune diesease so could in some respects be related.

Qualifying for the drugs meant that I had to have tried 4 other drugs (most of which were cancer drugs and tbh was a nasty ride). Then they ask you in for a accesment which involves seeing what ya joints are like for pain whilst you are taking your drugs. Then a month later without taking anything if you are able to show pain in several joints and have tried other drugs then you pass.

My sons suffering was a heavy blow and one that hits me often, even as I write this I cannot help but fear the worst. He is undiagnosed at the moment as he had a few new non-invasive tests that they can do and he was borderline for a inflammatory bowel problem next steps were scopes. We tried to negate certain foods with me and my knowledge as a guideline and it did negate alot of his symptoms so we have him under the specialists but have a open appointment for a year which we can extend for another. His symptoms at present are a little worse but not as bad as they were.

Incedently like me when his symptoms subsided he also put weight on. So it is very like me in all regards so I dont not hold much hope that it will be a negative for crohns tbh and knowing how it can be to live with is where it hits you hard.

Vaping id say have taken me back to almost a year prior with my symptoms as it has been a very gradual worsening but this in all honesty is all I can put it down to my life is a little bit stress free which as you know will also help but I would hold my hand up and state that vaping has done wonders for me and I personally hope that it will continue to reverse the problems I have been having building. I know you could argue that giving up smoking would have also done the same but there is so much I have given up because of my problems that it was my last and only sin.
