Tracking Details

I made a joke on another post about one of my locals who have a clipboard where you write your name and number for all to see who sign it after you. I noticed mike tyson had been in and my neighbour so I could easily have taken her phone number if I was creepy.

Went to the same pub yesterday with a mate and while big mike wasnt in, it was the same scenario with writing your name and number.

Easily walk up with your phone and take a picture of that. To anyone looking you just haven't memorized your phone number.

Wait a few days, phone every number and tell them you're from track and trace, the name of the pub they were at, the time they were there and there has been a confirmed case of covid linked where they came in to contact with them and they need to be tested. Guess what.... for £1.99 you can fast track the delivery of your test, now we just need your payment details.

A bit far fetched but some would fall for it and it's just one example of why it needs to be done securely.

The reasons for collecting contact details are legitiimate enough because of the pandemic but the main issue is about trust that the information won't be misused. Therefore, it should have been written into the regulations that the data must be protected and stored safely just like payroll, payment details or other kinds of personal information.

Being a pandemic, it's important to keep people willing to comply with it to reduce the spread so even the police should not be able to ask for it so the confidentiality of covid contact details needs to be protected by law with suitable punishments.

Regarding the barman who called a woman for a date, he should have been arrested and not just spoken to by his boss.

Of the 4 pubs I go 2 regularly only 2 are getting it right. Now, one was initially saying it was your choice but are now saying you have to and you're asked for it as you go in now.

Another has one member of staff permanently at the front door as you in where you put your name and number on a card that then goes in to a box. They seem to be the one taking it most serious.

The other was that one with the clip board.

The last one has a table with cards on it, or an app to do it if you want. The box you would put your card on there is left on a table for anyone to walk past and pick up so if I go there I use the app.

For things like payroll or financial information businesses are required to register with the Information Commissioners Office and have to show that they are complying with The Data Protection Act and GDPR in safely storing peoples information.

Of course the police can still ask to see those types of information if they have a warrant.

As this is a pandemic and you really need the public to comply you need their trust so not even the police should be allowed access to covid tracing details.

it’s the same for any business storing or processing personal data. i think the problem is that pubs aren’t usually doing this, so they haven’t got a clue about it. which is understandable, but still not good.

Seeing as this thread has slightly changed direction what do you think about having to do this in the first place?

Covid obviously spreads in pubs.........

I mentioned to the guy who owns the place that has the clip board out at the front and he looked confused. It's all new to them so you can forgive a bit of a learning curve but it's like the government just said "oh well that app we spent millions on is shit, just get the pubs to do it".

Well actually most of them are doing it if they have employees on payroll or take cards for paying for drinks.
