Am currently working on a Gepetto Tubby style wooden mod.

Have turned the main body of the mod and will be fitting the button and 510 connector soon which will be quite easy.

What i am currently struggling with is what to use for an end cap one the battery tube . IE what to use the keep the 18350 inside the mod and make the negative connection.

Have been thinking of getting a vamo extension tube and end cap from Stealth but that would then leave a step between the wood and the end cap as the tube would need to be insterted into the mod and the cap sits flush with the tube .

And as i only have a wood lathe and very little experience then turning my own end cap or threads is out of the question.

Anyone have any ideas for a solution????

adjam1972 After turning on the lathe I have been using brass plates for the top and/or bottom of my mods and running the wire alongside the battery compartment...

However depending on tools you can use a router table to create dovetail or plain slide on lids/backs or bases...
In my first one I just used the battery connections from a spare battery box, see here
There are so many ways of doing it... ;) Good luck

Was thinking of using brass plate for the bottom cover and just a few screws to keep it in place. Would then maybe mount the spring inside the body and use battery nipple down rather that the other way around.

Pics might help? Do you mean the cap would have a gap BETWEEN wood and cap edge? So all the ext tube fits insde wood, plus room for cap to fit inside making end/top of cap flush with base of wood? What about cutting slot into top of cap so a coin/screwdriver could be used to remove it? Then there wouldn't be a need for a big gap between wood n cap?
Or have I totally missed the point and got the wrong end of the mod again??

What about a wooden end cap? It could be held in place with magnets and use the magnets for the battery connection.

nope not quite

the tube would be mounted inside the body of the mod but the threaded part would be sticking out so that the end cap could be srewed on looking something like below

but then i would not be able to turn the body down narrow enough to be in line with the ned cap like below

have thought about a wooden end cap but not sure if i will have the wall thickness to be able to mount magnets!!!

The idea of recessing the whole tube and cap sounds like it mite be an option

The gepetto's seem to use a male threaded end cap

which allows for a shoulder , whereas the vamo is a female threaded end cap which means the tube needs to stick out from the body

Just had a thought... If I recess the whole tube and end cap into the body then epoxy a wooden cap onto the vamo cap

That's what I was trying to get at lol, but without a wooden end cap. So you'd slot the end cap for coin/screwdriver.

it was your post that gave me the idea ...

Cheers @Reevo

i like the idea of slotting the end cap , would look really nice . but i don't think the vamo end cap has enough beef in it to take a slot..
