OK so being new to this rebuilding malarkey I was wondering, after watching many tubes on you, is it just plain old bog standard cotton wool that you get at the local shop these people are using to wick,or some sort of more complicated version?

As long as it's unbleached it's good to go.

Many insist on organic cotton but all that really means is its left to grow without pesticides so every bug and his mate can poo on it.. You could call an unwashed homeless guy living in the woods organic haha

Organinc cotton is better, Japanese cotton is best.

Search on here for Muji cotton and there should be a link to thier website. Cheep as cheep things.

It wouldn't be the worst suggestion I've heard of lol tampons were one suggestion, someone suggested getting rid of the ink from marker pen and using the remains.. It was apparently the best wicking material he'd ever tried :)

Seriously though, I used to use organic cotton from Wilkinsons, Holland and Barrett and a load of other places do it too, which works well. Nowadays I use muji cotton, it's just so convenient cutting a strip to use and it wicks better than cotton wool because all the strands run in a straight line... Although cotton wool works just fine.

Just for japes I'm gonna try and build a coil round some sponge cake and vape some tea. Thanks for the link, damn cheap stuff [emoji106]

The reason for choosing organic is that the organic status requires that it be unbleached and also rules that it can't be treated with certain other harsh chemicals. Its not a hippie choice it is an easy way of ensuring what you are using is unbleached.

Actually it means that it's left to grow by using the permitted pesticides that "organic" growers are allowed to use and still be certified. These pesticides vary from country to country :yahoo:
"organic" also means that a grower can use more of the permitted pesticides and chemical fertilisers than are needed or even recommended, and still get certified. :D

I don't have much faith in this organic malarkey.

I've tried both organic cotton and the other stuff, and I have a preference towards organic. After it breaks down and gets completely saturated, it seems to have a more pure flavor. It may have been the cotton I was buying, but the "inorganic" had kind of a weird flavor to it, even after using it all day.

On a side note, after months of using organic cotton, I tried silica wick again and it was like vaping dust. It had the oddest inhale I've ever experienced, and literally felt like I was breathing in really fine dust.
