That comment should not be in the letter unless the authors provide peer reviewed sources.
Evidence provided without proof is just opinion.

there’s a link (see @andipandi ’s post above). but the sentence in question isn’t evidence, it is just a comment mentioning “concerns”. that’s how i read it, at least.

Tbh even when such 'evidence' is provided it doesn't mean it is factual. Tis why more often than not I roll my eyes when the words 'study finds' and 'experts' are used.

I dont object to the content or the sentiment in the letter, just the little dig they have at the end.

Very little in this world is completely harmless. I'd like to think that the majority of folk would say its LESS harmful than smoking tho.

aye, i think we would on here, at least. but i don’t know that it is safe to assume dual use doesn’t have any additional risk.

How can it carry additional risks? It's harm reduction, you're smoking less fags.

i don’t know, but i don’t think we can say 100% that it doesn’t. if you have a look about google there seems to be a lot of studies that conclude it does. they could surely all be bullshit, but i’m not a scientist.

Over here in Guernsey

Jealous... it's a lovely part of the world! We looked at a load of houses there before coming to the conclusion that we probably couldn't afford it, especially with the additional cost of health insurance (being the pair of old bastards that we are).

Are there any other suggestions that could help?

Smoking is very addictive and a proven killer. And if it doesn't quite kill you, conditions like COPD and lung cancer are really, really grim.

Vaping should be actively enouraged for smokers because it is so effective at helping people quit (NHS quote 200% as effective as other methods - which in any other field of harm reduction would be an unprecedented win - and the personal experience of many on here would suggest that 200% is a very conservative estimate).

Discouraging vaping for adult smokers is cruel and harmful - it is probably the best chance they will ever get to quit the cancer sticks.

The focus should be on preventing non-smokers from starting to vape.

If you have his ear, that would be my approach, FWIW.

Thanks very much. I shall relay.

And don't worry, whilst it's a beautiful island they're just about to vote in GST so prices are going to skyrocket. Lucky you didn't take the dive really. Still ok for holidays though!
