Arctic fox vs Escribe- cheaper boards and near DNA performance?

Funny, I went the other way, linux till the birth of systemd then moved to open/freebsd. Always used a mac for desktop tho, who needs the headache of x11/wayland in their life.
I have tried Linux in the past, I can't remember what distro it was but know it was a popular one, and sadly couldn't get my head around it.

I am surprised though that the most responsive people on this topic are also mac users, I thought I would get bashed for owning one but turns out you do too.

I like the fact they just work, the last Windows version I was familiar with was Windows XP, on my laptop that was bought for school use/homework.

I was a user of the P2P clients such as Kazaa and bearshare, the amount of virus's that computer must of had I guess was huge, as my antivirus was always letting me know of some but I bet a lot slipped through with me unaware.

I worked for a large American company and we actually had the source code for UNIX system V, before the split. To this day I've never seen a more powerful editor than Vi. Those that used their arrow keys you knew they were pretenders. (And here I am spelling Perl with an a :( ). Korn shell for me, never really gave bash a shot.

FTP, telnet and usenet groups were king before the web took over, and that was used for collaboration with the likes of Boeing.

Those backwards Windows slashes still destroy me, and I occasionally run Win 7 VM, with the free personal VMWare.

I put Artic Fox on an Istick power, wismec, pico and a cuboid. The software was great but the mods were cheap and flawed so it was a bit like polishing a turd.

The best chip I have used is the yihi. I love DNA but the battery management on a yihi is insane. My batteries lasted twice as long and the TC was really good.

BTW ......... here's Maelstrom's own words on this very matter.

Question: I'm looking for a best mod/mods for TCR with AF as on DNA60/75 and etc. In short, what mod with Arctic Fox firmware is able to work with TCR as well as DNA?

MAELSTROM (AF CREATOR/DEVELOPER ANSWERED)

No one, the ideology of TC is different.
DNA can provide precise temperature of the coil (within reason, of course). The OEM and our firmware goal is the dry heat protection.
... we have never positioned our firmware as an alternative or competitor to Evolv ... We don't compete with the best, we make the best of the worst
... usually beginners demand the almost impossible from their coils, and here we are definitely inferior to the Evolv.

Which Yihi board was this with? I have a fair few Yihi mods but more midrange boards, I have never had the highest end one at the time, and I find that they perform really well.

I only have a Vsticking 530 with a YiHi SX530 chip. Literally the bottom of the barrel. It will connect to the software and you can update the firmware but a lot of the features are disabled and can only be adjusted through the joystick.

Despite that it is excellent and still going strong. Had to put a cover on it though. I think I have the one called white deity and it looks like graffiti.

Compared to my Dovpo Top Gear, the same two batteries last twice as long. Granted not a very scientific test but the difference is notable.

I am going to pick up a couple of other mods with yihi chips soon.

I see, it is cool to see the developers stance on this, although I am slightly confused as Evolv doesn't offer TC either, they offer temp protection (forgive me if I am wrong on their later boards and they do offer this) and it state Evolv offer "precise temperature of the coil" whilst AF offers dry heat protection?

Does this mean AF is offering protection from dry hits whilst sensing the coil, or have I got this confused?

I like that they state they make the best of the worst, I can't deny a lot of the mods that can run AF do have bad designs, such as the 510 "spring" on the RX200 and RX2/3 not really being a spring, and prone to the problem where they get stuck down and can not make contact with the atomiser. Granted this was even a problem on the DNA200 version as well though, the cheap 510.

I see, you have a higher end board than I own then, my mods range from the Yihi SX130 up to the 330-F8 in the IPV8. I find them to work well in TC mode.

I haven't tested my mods battery life in comparison to others in a long time, but don't remember any issues apart from the Sigelei 30W mini that had abysmal battery life.

I recall the Evolv DNA200 being 97% efficient, so am not sure how efficient the Yihi boards run but they must be pretty good if you get twice the battery life of another mod.
