Thanks bud, I appreciate the reply, I have some flat wire, which I liked made some nice coils from it, but never even heard of rectangle, so i will try that next, are you using a jig to wrap your wires, I. E tiger wire wraps, electric drill one end, and something that spins the other end? Making your own Claptons? Fused Claptons etc. I like stainless and I have some 316 its much easier to work with but I have some stock ni 80 and a whole load of kanthal so i think I will work on that for now. Do you have a preference for where you get your wire from?
Mark never a problem. I too am an engineer and have a bit of OCD ( as i think most engineers do ) LOL. the rectangle wire was bought by mistake from Totally Wicked but i Have to say it has come in handy, its KA1. when put in a drill setup and turned slowly it spirals great giving a good effect. If done with 2 lengths and then wrapped with a fine KA or Ni80 gives a VERY nice twisted clapton. My real only advice is to build to the size of your rig ie holes and height. I tend to play around alot with the height i sit my coils in my unit to get best air flow as i like a long draw, the only down side to this is the wicking as it to it quite long and takes abit of time to get the juicw up, i counter acted this with a dripper and hay presto!!
Wire wise i habe got from CrazyWire but i have had my issues with them and delivering, meaning they didn't but everything has been sorted and the wire is really good and the price is good to. Dont get carried away with buying loads of different wires work out say 2 to 3 builds you want to do and order to that, remember though clapton/fused will use alot more of your finer wire ( i normally order min of 50 mtrs.
If your after say pre sorted wire but you want to coil your own try flatwire.co.uk the taste is amazing.
As for building i tend to do what i fancy if it works then great if not nobodys diead and throw it away and stat agian. some of my best coils have come from mistakes. failing that use then for jewllary lol.
if there is anything else i can help with message me mate ill get back to you asap.
Hope some of this helped
forgot to say that first pic of mine is 2 fused claptons twisted together then smoothed with the flat part of some pliers but slowly as the drill turns about 8 or 9 passes
