Coils Coils and Coils

Mark it’s looks great we all have to start somewhere, I like the look of the braid think I might have to have a play . Well done mate keep it up

Ok well it may not look so pretty but it vapes well, awesome flavour and good cloud, just for information it's a fishtail braid of 28 kanthal a1, 3 double strand, wrapped at 2.5 Id at 5 wraps, it's . 23 ohm, I should have gone ni80 but I'm waiting for wire, but even so I like the way it vapes. Strong solid flavour, not a massive throat hit but its there.

Thanks mate,
Can I just say I had another go and the next one came out much better, and I did a vertebraid too I will put some pictures up when I have some rda's free to put them in. But if you do some, get some gloves they are murder on your fingers.
Also there are a lot of videos on braid techniques that or completely indecipherable. I watched a couple and left more confused than when I started. Master of vapes did a good couple if you get stuck.

Vandyvape kensei, 3mm bore.

So, I tried the 24/32 Flapton flat Clapton kanthal Again the other day, this time, no flame thrower!

I wouldn’t say there is a MASSIVE difference in flavour, but it is noticeable compared to the basic wire.
A few issues: It’s spitting lots when first fired. Two to three loud pops, and often a splutter of hot juice in my mouth. I added 1% sour to my juice, could this make it spit more?
I’ve tried different thicknesses of wick, I’d read it should be a bit thinner/looser on the Clapton’s, but this made it spit far worse. I’ve tried lowering the wire so it’s nearer the air holes than pictured, but didn’t seem to make much difference other than less flavour (my imagination?)

It also gets real hot real quick! I’m using the SXMini g class, so have tried the different ramp up settings, and at low watts (below 50) I’m not getting much flavour.

I’m wondering, perhaps try with the coils non spread?

Maybe try a smaller bore, perhaps they are still pretty close to the tank wall?

A couple of questions would help, what vg/pg liquid are you using, and are you running the airflow full open? A spitting rda is normally (from what I've gathered) a flooded coil scenario, I'm sure others will correct me if I'm wrong, so from what I can gather you either need to reduce the amount of fluid getting to the coils or vapourize it faster, seeing as you have said it gets hot quickly I would assume you've tried higher wattage, maybe reducing the airflow and a lower wattage would make for a cooler vape.
I do get some popping with most of my builds but very rarely get the spit back or the dreaded oily tongue. When wicking I tend to wick so that's there is a little resistance to pulling it through the coil but not enough to move the coil itself. Then tends to work for me.

You could also try a smaller bore that would reduce the surface area in contact with the wick as would closing the coils up. I'm sure others will provide other suggestions but this would be the route I would go

Some good advice there, thank you.
I tend to vape around 60/40 vg/pg mix. I can’t tell much difference between a 70/30 and a 60/40 but they tend to fluctuate between the two depending how much concentrate I’ve added (I pre mix my vg/pg and nic @80/20

Yep, tried different wattages, and gets way too hot @70 watts

I’ve never had much success playing around with the air flow, so always vape with it fully open.
I have tried this morning, and yes, the popping is far less severe with the air vents half closed, but above 45watts it’s getting very hot again and spits as much , at and below 45w, I can’t get much flavour......will try with a different juice and see if it’s just that.

You should be ok at 60/40, for a cooler vape it's better too run a higher resistance so you use less wattage, using closed coils rather than separated can help with that it will also give fresh juice less surface area to be in contact with. Which would help with your spitting issue. Also you could a different ramp that maybe drops off towards the end of your vape time,

By all means try a different juice though, it could really be that simple.

Lower the coils as low as possible without them touching the honeycomb base plates.
Increase the cotton in the coil but keep the same amount of cotton in the wells as it looks to be wicking very well.

The instructions for the g class are, well, they might as well have not bothered lol. I’ve searched for online instructions for it, but can’t find anything that covers the whole mod, rather just snips here and there of people having various issues, so noooooooo idea how/if I can adjust the ramp down, will do a specific search.

Ahhh, dude, you taught me how to wick, hence such good wicking skills (partial wicking skills i mean :)
And yes, the coils REALLY close to the air ways does make a difference...I had tried that before, but not super close. It’s not only ‘smoothing’ the pops out to a bearable amount, but, of course, it’s keeping the coils cooler, so not over heating (face palm) :)
Back to having air vents open, and seems to be a lot better, thanks all!

Glad I could at least help a little, and thanks @StrawberryRipple for the superb advice, I hadn't thought about dropping the coils really close.
