What's new

Coronavirus UK Daily Statistics

So you are saying they should have open bars without staff

Hmmmm,
Not thought of that really, mind you the beer wenches are an essential part of the enjoyment of a drink in a pub.

However many years ago it was shown on tech programmes that a "serviceless" pub may happen in the future.

Thinking about it now it is entirely possible.

Do you remember when a lot of pubs (particularly big chain ones) trialed metered pumps that with one button served a half, and with another served a pint ?
Same with the spirits etc.
Some even had them linked to the till so the round was added up automatically.

We now have coin operated coffee machines.

Also contactless credit card machines.

So it is possible with today's, and yesteryears technology.

All that would be lacking is a beer wench.
But what about robots, they are already used in industry.
All that would be need would be to programme them with different personalities, all the way from polite, and attentive, to lazy ones that say fuck off. :18:

Yes, btw, are you related to Mike "Porky" Parry? You are both equally obsessed with pubs. I'm mostly obsessed with alcohol consumption. There was this female though, worked in Spoons, she had the most wonderful eyes...

Yes but was it really 830 deaths today.
As in the link shows that it was published at 16:22 so either it is not the total for today so will be higher by midnight. Or is it actually data from today, and yesterday from from 16:22 ?

If the latter then some of that data is from a Monday which we know spikes after a weekend where few deaths are input into the data from Saturday & Sunday and in this case would also possibly include data from Friday which was a bank holiday.

That's why (as I have said before) the data should be considered by as an average for a weeks worth of data.

As in a previous post that I made when on a couple of days the deaths were over 900, but if you took an average of the figures for that week, it only came out at ~500 per day.

Edited to please @StrawberryRipple , changed cases to deaths.

Simple, I have been in one pub, bar, or restaurant almost every day of my life since the age of 14, and I am now 61. In fact many years ago after a few long trips in the car over a couple of weeks my wife said "I think you have been in every pub in a twenty five mile radius of our house" after having to put up with hours of me saying "I used to pop in that pub for a drink, now, and again.

Did you look up as far as her eyes, or were you really admiring the rest of her attributes ? :18:

No it was 830 people dead.
830 people with families that won't see them again.

Saying "it's only 500 per day" Is probably not the best choice of words.

Coincidentally @andi52 my neighbour is called Mike....................

A couple of days ago the daily average was just over 600 deaths. As has been reported ad nauseum; it takes time to get infected, become ill, deteriorate and then die. With 50k+ new infections daily and the Chrismas and new year infections not even visible yet, fatalities are sadly going to increase even with an immediate lockdown because of the aforementioned lag.

Fair enough, I have edited my post to say deaths, rather than cases, just to please you. :)

Maybe it was not in your opinion, but in mine it was justified.
How else would you have described the difference in values of 500 against 900 per day ?
Large, massive, great, minimal ?

It seems to me that you are trying to intimate that I am a cold hearted bastard, with no emotions.
That is as far from the truth as you could be.

I have witnessed tragedy many times in my life, including rescuing people with their feet, hands, and arms trapped in machinery.
Some of my best friends have died over the years in tragic circumstances, the most recent was one of my brother in laws, at only 40 years old.
In recent months one of my best friends father died of covid.
At several funerals the grieving wife, or sister would only speak to me at the funeral, because they felt supported by me.

Maybe you did not like the way in which my post was written. But I make no apology for this, a major part of my work for the last 25 years included writing reports in a clear, and concise manner.
Do you really think that the NHS, the government advisors, and the Cabinet Ministers, start, and end every comment between themselves with "it saddens me to say" or "I have awful" news, or "my heart goes out to their families" of course it does not !

Your own post was "60,916 new cases and 830 new deaths in the United Kingdom" not at all compassionate, same style as mine.

So do not try to make out that I am some sort of uncaring monster !
