We can flap around and jump up and down and fire off missives left right and centre and it may raise profile.

When one of the EU Commissioners launched an attack on biking in the early 90s, this was what happened and, nothing happened.

Then the biking press got involved on a Europe wide basis. A common response was generated. Euro MPs were canvassed – by individuals and the press, open letters were written and there was a mass, silent ride through. Euro MPs scheduled motions and the EU Parliament had a motion proposed, in the bikers favour, which was passed. The Commissioner concerned chose to ignore this. Serious national press throughout Europe picked this up, questions were asked, more pressure was exerted and more campaigning done. Eventually the Commissioner went and with him, the attack.

Concerted action with a mass common approach and message (backed by valid logical information and tangible authoritative sources) is usually far more effective than a mass of individual messages that lack this coherent focus. This approach demands valid refutation and if this cannot be done, the campaigners gain the upper hand. Which is why, given the 3 year window, I am waiting for the experts – on vaping and the EU to formulate their responses. I will then do whatever I reasonably can, following their expert lead.

I would urge people NOT to write to MPs Euro MPs yet. A first communication that contains a carefully worded logical argument, backed by valid sources, requires a considered response and either refutation and response or support and response. There are a few experts within the Industry and within various THR organizations that are likely to provide exactly the sort of information we need to write with - when they have had time to formulate a considered, meaningful response.

Well good luck to whoever wants to take on that Daunting Task, I bet it will be ECITA, Totally Wicked, or ECCA to push forward, but what is the harm in making the MEP/MPs see there is a large outcry of opposition to the ban from regular people who are not driven by profits, or carefully selected interests by organisations?

A random rant or two.
The latest response from the avid 'I quit smoking' forums is that smokers are addicted to nicotine and vaping means they remain addicted to nicotine.
I know several people who quit smoking but have been using NRT instead for up to 10 years!

Recently a number of vapers have started posting on these forums. The posts are usually deleted and an announcement is made that all of these posts are from ecig vendors trying to increase their profits and keep people addicted.

Now I see a lot of 'successful quitters' who swapped smoking for pharma NRT, never stopped the nic. I have a friend with COPD who now uses a mixture of supermarket cigalikes with a green band (nicorette colour?) plus NRT losenges plus rollies plus a few tailormades.

The 'they contain antifreeze' lie is promulgated.

I suspect that these forums are run by NRT pharma companies that steer belief to sell their products. After all, a medicine can't be dangerous? NRT lozenges look like sweets and the containers aren't childproof.
Of course if I can't undo a childproof container I ask a child to do it, never found a 4 year old who can't.

I find this little extract to be of interest:

NCPs above a certain nicotine threshold are only allowed if authorised as medicinal products. NCP below the threshold must carry health warnings.

NCPs are Nicotine Containing Products i.e. E-cigarettes.

Sounds like big pharma get the option to supply the public with their MHRA approved 'medicinal' e-cigs.

All this seeks to do is try to protect the profits of big pharma in the face of dwindling NRT usage.

What a bunch of corrupt to$$ers.

Letter from my MP

Hi I received a letter from my MP, which is attached. Bit more than a standard reply. Lets see what happens

A new stop smoking advert is being launched. It shows a tumour growing on a cigarette with each puff and says that it is the many chemicals in tobacco smoke that kills.

There is research going on sponsored by the NHS I think, on ecigs, requirements for joining being smokers who have never used one who have to use whatever they are given. The study is looking at effectiveness as an NRT and as a harm reduction method.
I've also just been asked by the mod on a quit smoking forum what brand I use. Not easy as I don't use a 'brand', but a combination. I did try to explain that brands that look like cigarettes didn't work for me.
I got that question because a member of the forum was describing mild nic OD from lozenges and I told her that's what they were, said I'd learnt that through ecig forums, and suggested she either cut the dose or quantity. She tried having one less and no longer has headaches but nobody on that forum had any idea that NRT could cause an OD.
