Fall in demand for quit smoking support

My GP is very supportive as she thought I would die before I gave up smoking. I wouldn't have given up any other way, death didn't scare me but being incapacitated by a stroke did. Luckily it wasn't a major one.

What I don't get is how anyone can read that and miss out the obvious entirely number / funding / money driven argument.

It's like someone arguing that chemotherapy isn't as good as paracetamol for cancer treatment. Sure chemo's not as good as just not having cancer in the first place, but it's a damn sight better than having it.

The Catch 22 thing with vaping, that, I'm sure, will haunt and shackle the vaping world, from now until eternity, is that it will be forever linked with smoking, even if the link is as a quitting aid.
Even though vaping has done me nothing but good, I still feel like I've shot myself in the foot by singing it's praises as a way to quit the ciggies.
In my heart of hearts, I hate vaping being lumbered in with "medicines" and quitting items.
It's as if we, as vapers, have handed vaping over to the WHO and MHRA and said, with heads bowed, "Please fuck this up for us"

"The position of e-cigarettes is at the moment not fully clear because they are so new there hasn't been all the research carried out," he said.

Yes there fekking has! And, besides, 50 years of research hasn't stopped folks smoking tobacco and another 50 years of vaping research won't stop people vaping so, ffs, stop bleating and mithering about it.

"We actually don't know at this stage just how effective they are in helping people to stop smoking."

Yes we fekking do!

Dr Carnon said it was clear from research that people had the best chance of quitting with some support.

"It is not just about the nicotine replacement, it is not just about use of e-cigarettes," he said.

"It is actually about working with somebody to help you through the difficult process - because it's not easy to quit smoking.

... actually it turns out it is, you just don't like medium because it's not lining your pockets.

"Dr Carnon said that although there was still a lack of evidence about their (e cigarettes) effectiveness"

How much more evidence is needed? there are thousands and thousands of ex smokers like myself, who quit smoking ( after 40 years in my case) instantly and effortlessly by switching to vaping.

Well, just for a bit of balance ... there will be thousands and thousands of smokers who have tried e-cigarettes and gone back to smoking.
We know that's true, there is research that strongly suggests that open type systems are more effective than closed systems or cigalikes.
It wouldn't surprise me if PH officials are looking at misleading research findings ... they'll see the ones that Big Pharma push at them.

What @cheersm8 says really resonates with me ... we don't vape for smoking cessation reasons, we're well past that. The generation 3 gear that most of us use is well past that.

The TPD, more than anything, applies to the kind of NRT gear that switchers will convert to ... that it legally encompasses us existing vapers too does not mean that we'll allow it to apply to us. What we all know, and seemingly the PH lot don't, is that that gear just isn't as effective in getting people off the fags, and keeping them off.

Slowly, slowly they might just catch up ... but there isn't a Big Vaping to show them the way to the trough.

Gonna have to say, speak for yourselves everyone. I started vaping to get off the smokes, there was no other reason at that time.
At this stage in the game, yes, i have surpassed that & crossed over into a different kind of activity & have an interest in other vaping areas but all of that is secondary & none of that will support any arguments in favour of vaping.
Vaping as a smoking cessation on the other hand & the evidence of how less harmful than smoking it is will still stand up as a solid argument.
Remove my nicotine from the equation & what's left except for some hardware & self titilation. I can see that standing up well against all the other healthy interests available to us in the world...Not !

The BBC seem to still blow hot & cold, they show an ignorance today as much as they did a year ago & so far the evidence that has stacked up to date has flattened all of the speculative media bullshit every time. The BBC will have to twist their stance on such reports one day & they'll be red faced. Or will their pockets just be nicely lined along with all the other back handing corrupt rich corps ? They always report shit as if it's new news & yet they also report it in that old grey pensioner stuck-in-mud stiff upper lip, old fart, plain Jane, nieve way. BBC ! Big Bunch of ----.

Its only not safe or they don't know what's in them so that they can tax the fuck out of vaping to reccuperate the money they are losing in tax from the fags. My view lol
