Fuck apple

(Cr)Apple can get in the fecking Sea! :18:

Yes, I say this as an iPhone user - but only because the b@stards make me! :17::18:

Ahh I remember the days Apple was the plucky underdog - and everyone cussed out Microsoft all the time

Onky it was a bit more realistic coz windows actually was shit.

Totally get why people don't like apple but I love my MacBook pro for photo editing and general web use. It just always works and works well every time and nothing ever goes wrong and no fiddling about with settings and installs etc etc.... You do pay a price for that though so like I say I can see why pc users balk at both the technology and the price.
When it come to phones I use an android device though, I don't find any problem with cross compatibility sending files between the two (send anywhere free software) I had a iPhone 4s ages ago and it was a bloody good smartphone but i just won't pay those prices for a phone i just use for the basics.

It’s because everyone hates the biggest company at the time - it’s cool and hip to do so.

few years ago the roles were reversed

Apple stuff is quality - and you pay for that - you also get a longer run for your money tho

I use Apple exclusively these days (for years actually - I was a PC repair and build tech for some time, i was so amazed at how much less Hassle Apple were I swapped)

we use macs at work - apart from label printing - we have two pcs that run the printers - and it’s a lessen in depression and frustration whenever we have to use them.

I know what you mean, I wouldn't be able to build a pc without some serious research to be fair but I've had this mac for a good few years now and its been perfect every day every time. I wouldn't go back to a pc now unless i wanted to play games. If i did phone contracts or was a heavier smartphone user id go for an iPhone as well but that doesn't make much financial sense for calls WhatsApp and the occasional out and about web browse.

Sure, it used to be, but components have been substandard compared to other manufacturers for a while now. Then tag on design flaws and you've got yourself a bit of a shitshow going on.

My new MBP's keyboard is beyond shite thanks to the butterfly key design in the drive to make books thinner. This was an issue known to Apple from the first iteration, yet this is three iterations in and it's still a problem.

And don't get me started on customer service. But you have, so I'm going to rant on :D

I spent around 6 hours speaking to CS departments around the damn world to get my MBP sorted. My treatment was shockingly bad. Worse, ultimately, nobody would action the repair. It took me resorting to ranting to a "Genius" [*they aren't geniuses] in store and making a total scene. That's not what I paid £1450 for.

Then there's the planned obsolescence of old models, software updates configured to make old items operate inferiorly in order to prompt new acquisitions, restrictive constraints placed on software devs...it goes on.

My Asus Predator has been flawless on the other hand and beats the Macbook specs hands down in every sense.

A lot of me is now locked in to the Apple environment, but I'm far from convinced that this is because of the "quality" on offer. The next time I'm upgrading my phone and tablet I'm almost convinced I'll not be buying from the Big A any longer.

Hmmm that keyboard issue has been known for a while, that sucks. They are scrapping it now.
Releasing the first macs with their own apple chips is going to be a big moment as well. Lets hope they aren't shit.
I've never had to use customer services so that's crappy if they are bad.

I'm not entirely convinced about the apple "quality" thing. Also, getting stuff fixed can be a bit of a nightmare. And quite expensive.

To me, their walled garden approach makes them stand out. Not everybody likes it, but it does offer significant benefits for many users - reliability, less malware, etc.

Also, for many, privacy is a big deal. Particuarly on mobile compared to android. It's a big shame they watered down their latest update.

i agree with some of this. i have a few macbooks in the house, one that was purchased in 2007 or 2008 had various hardware problems. screen failures, the keyboard, hard drive failed. i took it to the apple store each time and they fixed it in a couple of days with no question, even the second screen failure after it was out of warranty, when i explained it had previously failed in the same way. but still, it’s disappointing.

i have another from 2008 that hasn’t had any problems at all and still works and gets a bit of use.

the one i mostly use is from 2012 and it runs better now than it did when i bought it after putting a solid state drive in it a few months ago.

i also had a grey g4 tower that i bough round about 2000 which is still being used for graphic design stuff by the guy i sold it to and still runs surprisingly well after 20 years. it’s never needed any repairs other than upgrading memory.

i think there have been shit batches of products since they became so massive that they haven’t always dealt with very well (although sometimes they seem to do), which is definitely a major slip for them, their customer service used to be excellent. and i think it is still comparatively good.

but there are other factors. my wife’s pc laptop is about the same age as mine and has higher spec components yet the operating system is a bloated mess. it’s a useless pile of shit. it ties itself in knots trying to start up and can’t shut down properly. the same happens periodically to the various relatively new laptops we have in the office and we need to get the it guy out to sort them out. apple are far better in the sense that you can buy a computer and never really have to do any maintenance, not need to bother with anti virus or any of that stuff and ten years later it will still be very useable. i’ve not had the same experience with windows computers (wife’s laptop, equipment at work) at all.

as for phones and tablets, i just prefer the interface. can’t deal with android personally, although there are some decent android phones.

but anyway, fuck them. :D
