Considering getting my first RTA MTL and looking at the Hellvape Md

I have never used a RTA before but fed up with constantly buying coils

I have a few questions I was looking at pre made wire coiled but see all different types wasn’t sure what I would need and also what cotton is best

thanks in advance

Coilology make good wire and do a range of pre-made MTL coils. That would be a good starting point for you. I don’t think they make single wire coils but going with some simple Claptons would be good. Anything around the 1 ohm mark for mtl will get you started.

UD make some simple kanthal coils that are 1ohm and they are fairly decent too. I started out on those and then made my own.

After a while it’s worth making your own coils. It’s far more simple than you’d think unless you have dexterity issues. Stealthvape wire is often considered to be the best quality.

As for cotton, well, this will fall into two schools. Muji and “rasher style” cottons. Some will recommend Muji as it’s cheap, simple to use and forgiving. Others will recommend the later with brands such as cotton bacon, jellyfish and cotton gods.

My advice would be buy a small pack of muji as it’s super cheap and then get a pack of the other and see how you go. Personally I like Cotton Gods.

Agree with @Discomatt all the way.

You could try a pack of pre-made coils, but wrapping them yourself is so easy, I'd skip that part and just get a coil jig and some 28 awg kanthal from stealthvape.

If you're flush, you could try a few thicknesses of wire - so 27 and 29 awg also.

The jig has a few diameter options. I use 25mm which is a good starting point for MTL.

Plenty of youtube videos showing you how it's done. Random example:

The main issue I had initially was not trimming the coil ends tightly enough. They stuck out and hit the chamber sides, shorting the build.

No experience of the Hellvape, so can't comment on that. Would recommend the Steamcrave Glaz Mini MTL as a decent easy to live with tank.
I don't use pre made coils, so am not sure where to recommend. But simple kanthal coils, 27 or 28awg are the way to go for a starter.

When I got my first rta I was going to buy pre made coils, but after advice from fellow apes I ordered a reel of 28g kanthal and 5 mins after it was delivered had my very first coil made (5 wraps spaced, inner diameter 2.5 at 1ohm) using a 2.5mm screw driver and some nail clippers (though I would reccomend a small coil tool kit as you'll end up buying one anyway) it really is easy once you know wich wire to use.
Wire was £3 or £4 and I got a big bag of muji for £4. Thats my coils sorted for the next couple of years.

Hellvape seems to be a 24mm tank - just in case you got a titchy mod

+2 for Stealthvape (say 27/28awg (0.35mm)) 7 wraps on a 2.5mm diameter = 1.1 Ohm
(honestly, if you can fit a coil, you might as well build one unless you got arthritis etc...)

Muji is well cheap & easy to buy, so you can perfect your wicking for pennies
then decide if you like to try other cottons once you sussed it

this is just preaching to converted or repeating what @Discomatt already said
(was typing this but PC crashed - so wtf post it anyway as it was saved)

it is all sound advice, though the tank is 24mm not 22mm in case you got titchy mod
happy wicking etc...

I was gonna crack a joke but instead I'll just clarify that you really meant 2.5mm and not 25mm.
