Hi everyone,

I bought my first e-cig today and I have a few questions I'd be grateful for some help with. I have a Totally WIcked Store near me and after a few months of umming and ahhing and looking at their website I popped into the shop because none of what I read made any sense at all (an I'm mostly too impatient to order things online!)! lol She asked about my smoking habits (I used to smoke around 20 menthol cigarettes a day but changed to RYO Menthol Tobacco and menthol tips about three years ago smoking around 25-30g a week) I actually prefer RYO to bought cigarettes as my combination of menthol tip and menthol tobacco makes them 'mintier' than a traditional cigarette. She recommended the Tornado Tank and 18mg Menthol liquid over the i-cig or microlight as they are more for the lighter smoker. I've tried the unit and liqid out for most of today but I really don't like it- like a true n00b I inhaled it like a normal cig and pretty much dessimated a lung! There was also this fairly nasty after taste that I can only describe as cheap nasty cigarette! As I said before my current combo is a fairly minty smoke with an equal throat hit to a polo and cola :D ie, not tobacco throat hit but a just brushed your teeth and gone outside throat hit! After talking with the husband we've come o the conclusion that I don't actually smoke that much- I'm a lighter and doer (if that makes any sense!) I'll light a cig and pop it in the ash tray whilst I do other stuff returning for regular puffs etc I also leave a really long stub so my 20 a day is probably 15 actual cigarettes. Upon trying the e-cig my husband also set fire to his lung (I did warn him but you know :D) but he said the taste was fine and he didn't get the nasty after taste that I did. I've also developed a whacker of a head ache and substantial nausea that I can liken to the time I tried nicotine patches and they gave me 16mg patches that were too strong (why did I not remember ANY of this when I was stood in the shop!).

So, my questions are; Will reducing the mg to say 8 or 11 reduce the throat hit I'm not keen on as well as the nausea and headache? Is the PG liquid the culprit for the nasty throat-ness; should I opt for VG? (I read a page on here where somone described VG as a slightly sweeter, smoother vape; which I like the sound of). My husband is ok with the menthol liquid at 18mg so I was going to go and buy another unit tomorrow and a lower strength liquid- would the microlight type be ok for me or would it work out horribly expesive in the long run (a common thing I have seen on vape forums is a lot start out with the cigalike type and progress to the tank style anyway). I intend to mix my own eventually as my (very) long term goal is to reduce my nicotine to 0.

Also, despite my impatience, is there better places to buy my tank and liquids from online?

Thanks so much for reading this far in my long rambly post :D

Welcome to the forum.

Vapour is heavier than smoke and therefore more difficult to get into the lower lung - most nicotine is absorbed in the upper respitory tract - so. Take a long drag, hold it in your mouth and breathe in gently. It is like smoking but if you take short hard drags like some people do on roll ups you might end up spluttering.

I would try a lower mg juice. .. Might take a while to find Whats right for you. . 100s of flavours and pg/Vg ratio mixes. Plenty of online shops about. tw are a big brand. .but shop around. .. Lots of vendors giving a good service. .. Try a 70/30 mix with a mint flavour rather than menthol. .. Like a spearmint or a fruit. .. A common nice tobacco is ry4. .. Only buy small bottles so u don't waste to much. . But don't bin what you don't like because Vapers do a lot of swapping. .. Hope it helps

The nasty after taste you mention is probably from the burnt ejuice, if you drag for long it will start to burn the juice when coils are heated to red hot. try to drag for 5-6 seconds or so.

the nausea and headaches are symptoms of overdosing on nicotine, with smoking nicotine is absorbed in the lungs and that's incredibly fast delivery system and you get instant buzz , however on e-cig most of the nicotine is absorbed in the soft tissues of mouth and throat and this will trickle slowly over time, once you vape just give a bit of time for nicotine to reach the brain and after this time if you still crave vape again.

PG gives throat hit while VG gives more vapour, so reducing PG content a bit more while keeping the same nicotine dosage will still help with the harshness of the vapour. and certainly lowering the nicotine dosage will lower the throat hit as well but as a recently quit smoker you may find your selves vaping a lot more to get enough nicotine.

Buying your kit online and ejuice will certainly be cheaper in the long run. I started with cig lookalike and a pack of cartridge (contains 3 cartridges with 1ml ejuice) for it is £7, while on the net 10ml e-juice like 3-4 quid. And OFC once you get in to DIY mixing side of things you can find your self a suitable menthol and nicotine strength and also good balance of PG and VG.

Thank you all for your responses. I'm currently looking around at a few sites and I've found alot of them do the clearomizer ones. I currently have the separate tank/atomizer thingymajib'n'bob. The lady at TW said the Atomizer would last about 4-6 weeks- how long does a clearomizer last? Is it the same and what impact does having a higher VG in the clearomizer have to its longevity? Would a diluent help to increase this if I go for a higher concentration of VG?

Thanks again

The metal piece that heats up the juices called atomizer, and it depends on the usage. I'm a moderate vaper and my clearomizer's (Kanger T3) atomizer lasted me a month. My ejuice is usually 70/60% PG and 30/40% VG. Atomizer heads for the clearomizer's are around £2.50 so it ain't expensive.

VG is very dense liquid and having only VG juice will make gunk build up on the coils and wicks in atomizer heads faster, so it may decrease longevity. Diluent will certainly make the juice wick easier but I'm not sure if it will help longevity of it, as I never vaped VG heavy juice. I'll leave that to the others who tried it. :)
