What's new

I'm an idiot, please help me. DNA escribe advice needed.

You ain't in the minority Toby. Escribe is a proper pain in the arse until you're used to it.

Keep plugging. [emoji6]

Maybe something with the resistance. Although it only changed from 0.26 to 0.31 when it was pulled out. I realise that could affect things, but surely no as much as I've experienced.

That's a sizable drift, 20% of the base resistance - it will cause the mod to fire 20% hotter than set, which is quite a lot. Might just need double checking the capture screws/grub nuts to make sure nothing's come loose. Usually the first thing I do after installing a coil is fire it a few times (in TC mode, not glowing) and then make sure all the connections are still tight. Sometimes after firing a few times something wiggles a bit loose, maybe due to a bit of thermal expansion.

As far as escribe goes, remember that once you've loaded up all the coil materials you need and set up your profiles, you won't need it again, so there is light at the end of the tunnel. I haven't opened it for ages. Besides adding coil materials and changing pre-heat settings, you can change everything else with button combinations on the mod, which you might find easier than using Escribe:

Lock/unlock fire button (FB): 3x click fire
Normal/stealth: hold fire and - with FB locked
Lock/unlock resistance: hold fire and + with FB locked
Change material: hold fire, - and + with FB locked (+/- then cycles materials)
Change power: hold + and - with FB locked
Lock/unlock temp: hold + and - with FB unlocked
Change profile: 2x click + or - while temp is locked and FB is unlocked (+/- then cycles profiles)

Basically, if like me you don't care about preheat punch (I don't see it's value in TC mode), then the only thing you absolutely need Escribe for is adding new coil materials. My DNA75 arrived about 3 hours before I was leaving for a 2 week camping holiday, so I had time to figure out how to upload NiFe wires, but nothing else. For my first few weeks with my DNA75, I was just using a single generic TC profile and making adjustments via the mod.

Thanks @danb, I've had my fill of coffee this morning and I'm going to dive in again. I do realise that if I was a bit more competent with computers and had a bit more patience then it would be a much easier task.

I want temp control, when it worked for a couple of hrs yesterday it was great, the heron was singing, no ramp up time, and hard to describe the vape, smooth is how I'd describe it I guess.

I think if money was no object I would have gone for a yihi or dicodes temp controlled device, being able to sort out everything on the mod is a big bonus in my eyes. But for £42 worse case scenario is I have a nice little mod with a great chip, to simply use in power mode.

I'm hoping I crack it today, the Mrs is out at a craft show, giving me some time to tinker. [emoji12][emoji106][emoji106]

TBH I find E-scribe pretty simple - However I understand how lots of people could find it difficult, I'm better prepared for this kind of thing by virtue of working with photocopier service modes and RUI's which are often fairly similar.
Heres a quick & simple of the first screen...

I'm not sure you'd benefit from either of those - The YiHi is OK but not much of one for wires - you get Ni200, SS316 and Titanium now but you'd have to monkey aroud with TCR's for anything else, and I always found they ran a bit hot. As for the Dicodes - beautiful devices but the menu system makes escribe look like a "Janet and John" book...

Why on the mod is there the option to change both profile and material? Surly if you change the profile you are already selecting whatever material is associated with that profile...
