Hey everyone,
I'm new here and I just wanted to sharehow e-cigs (pretty much literally) saved my life! Before I found, orrather, decided to try e-cigarettes, I had been a smoker for morethan ten years. For about 6 or 7 of those years, I smoked a pack aday. That's nothing compared to what some people go through, but thewinnings I got in the genetic lottery of life didn't help me any –I had long developed a terrible smoker's cough, couldn't run, couldn't exercise. Felt winded really quick. What's worse is that mygrandfather nearly had to have his leg amputated, there was a bloodclot in his artery from smoking and it nearly turned gangrenous. Ech.But still I smoked! Genetic predisposition to addiction, just plainweakness – don't rightly know.
About a year ago, though, I decidedthat enough was enough. I realized that smoking was going to kill me– it had ruined my life enough already. I was overweight, wheezy, and hadn't even hit 40 yet! That was pretty bad. So I looked up somestores next to me – I'm in Kansas – and found FinCigs. Drove overthere, got to talking with the girl at the store, and it really blewme away how there are so many sorts of e-cigarettes and smokingdevices. I suppose smokers are a picky lot – but that's alright. Ipicked out something basic, purchased a few cartomizers, and drovehome to test it out – smoking a regular cigarette on the way, ofcourse.
Now, I had tried to quit several times– usually once every two years I tried, seriously, to quit smoking. But nothing really worked – not cold turkey, not that famous bookthat gets you to stop smoking by letting you smoke, nada. Much of itcame down to the fact that the process calmed me down – steppingoutside, inhaling, forgetting about my worries. This is what I didthat day. I waited until the craving hit me(making sure to wait alittle extra so that I got really jittery), put the e-cig together, went outside, turned it on... And... At first I didn't feel much –I was like, “Is that it?!”
But the feeling wasn't unpleasant, andI could feel the nicotine flowing into my lungs in the form of vapor. It certainly made me less nervous and jittery, so I was prettyimpressed.
For the last year, I've been weaningmyself off of cigarettes, slowly but surely replacing them withe-cigs. It didn't come as a eureka moment or anything – but now Ismoke maybe 3 cigarettes a day, down from 20. My lungs have clearedup A LOT, I stink less (my breath was a mess), and my whole body justfeels cleaner and less gunky.
