Kayfun Help!

You can pick up a reasonable little chefs torch for about £10, or if you want to take a bit of a punt on quality there are "Pencil" torches from £5

Thanks mate. £10 is not to bad really.

Where is the best place to buy from and which one. Just had a google and there's loads to choose from.

Quick update:

I got to work this morning and thought I'd try and follow @Tubbyengineer's instructions as it looked pretty detailed and a good step by step, and all is good. I do have to work out how many coils equals what. I got 1.6 using .28 wire wrapped around a 2.5 drill bit. I didn't torch the wire as I don't have a torch (does this make alot of difference, and what is the idea of torching as I have no idea?).

Anyway I got it done. Got the wire wrapped around the screw. Is there a good way to do this as when I do it the wire kept popping out from under the screw head? Then got her fired up and no weird taste.

My only real problem was one I filled it up half the juice seemed to come out the air hole at the bottom but I'm guessing that this was because I filled it up before I put the top cap on and then turned it upside down. I also think it could have been me not filling very carefully as I used the bottle I emptied the juice from the kfl before I rebuilt, and this didn't have a nipple top on it and I could've inadvertently tipped some down the middle.

So really I would say a success. Certainly alot better than my attempts yesterday so thank you to everyone who replied yesterday and especially tubbyengineer who has probably written that quick guide so many times he can do it with his eyes closed.

Torching the wire lightly before coiling takes out a lot of the springiness, To get the wire under the screws leave your coil on the screwdriver / drill bit and place it over the air hole then simply take the wire and pull it clockwise around the screw so that it comes back towards you (This is one of the places where having torched the wire helps) but if you cant ge it to stay put without help, next time you wrap the coil leave the legs a couple of inches longer then once you've pulled it round the screw wrap the loose end of the wire around the drill bit while you tighten the screw...

I'd have a squint at amazon and find one you like the look of with decent reviews, I picked mine up on special from Aldi, but i started with a Draper soldering iron from Amazon that I modified by removing the soldering tip & diffuser mesh with a dremel, The thing works a treat, has a heatproof cap and will run for 15 minutes or so on a fill... (£15 odd from Amazon) but the cooks torches are fine.

I find the wires are much easier to trap under the screw heads on my genuine kfl + than the clones I have. For the clones I actually put a full wrap of wire around the screw so it can't pop out

Check on YouTube for a video about building the Navy Nest. It doesnt take long to master and is so reliable for flavour and vapour. I always rebuild my kayfun using this method as it is so consistently good. Silica is the way to go in my opinion but if you really want cotton, im ive no idea as i never seem to be able to get it working well myself.
