What's new

Look at picture, again tasting bad after 10 mins, why does this happen?

I don’t get it, as you can see the RDA cotton is only a few vapes old... But already black bits under the coil, and that’s what changed the flavour from good to quite nasty for me. It happens so randomly, as I could be vaping on a new coil or an old coil, for 10 minutes or a whole day, but once the Black happens I nder a coil, it’s game over and time for rewick. Any ideas how to avoid or better, what causes this exact issue so I try to avoid. So far, I tried different cottons, different amount of cotton, brushed, non brushed, 40 watts, 60 watts.. its just too random, same juice can too... upset as can never rely on a good vape now or just rely on carrying one prewicked RDA. For starters, is the coil worth chucking or is it something else? P.s onky rewicked 3 times so it’s quite a new coil too.

The issue is hotspots in the mesh where it stops touching cotton but I don't know a fix as I've only ever used mesh as a wick

The fix is to put a proper coil in it..... not sure if that's possible with this rda?

More cotton.

But the best fix for this atomiser is to bin it.

Forget the mesh coil in this rda and just use a normal coil the mesh coils are aright pain on this rda.......

I have the same RDA and gave up on the pre made mesh coils as they were to hit and miss.

I bought a roll of SS316 mesh wire made by vandy vape and it works a dream now.

More cotton, these atties look to require an immense amount of cotton.

If there’s anywhere that hasn’t got the cotton in 100% contact with mesh you’ll get the issue that you describe

I get a bit of what your showing but never enough to ruin the taste. After a learning curve rewicking, the Profile gives me no problems now & I have 2 in use. It's a case of, if you can get more cotton in then do it. It's counter intuitive because on a normal coil too much wick will strangle the juice flow. On this it's the total opposite.

As mentioned the issue is hot spots. Firstly, make sure you dry burn the mesh. Secondly, the cotton under the mesh needs to be packed in tight. Really tight. How much cotton you have either side isn't important but under the mesh you want the cotton extremely snug. Remember, when the cotton becomes fully saturated it sags slightly. If you don't pack enough cotton to begin with it will cause this issue as the cotton sags in certain areas causing spots where cotton and mesh are not in full contact. Rewick it dry burning the mesh first and just make sure you pack the cotton in tight under the mesh.

This seems like an interesting experiment as the wotofo coils do seem to be hit and miss, and do create some hotspots here and there, especially as I tried packing in the cotton as per other comments so always touches very moist cotton at all times.

1. How do you know how much mesh to cut off do you guess or meticulously measure?
2. Also are the width sizes exactly the same or do you have to cut vertically too?
3. prebuilt wotofo mesh have a small straight edge at both ends to hold into place and possibly conduct better, while obviously the ss wire mess rolls you mention doesn’t have that. Is conductivity just as good and what sort of ohms does your read at as?

P.s on train on the way to the vaping expo in Birmingham now as we speak so well excited ;) Vandy Vape May have a stand there so you never know, may be getting it even today to try soon...

Many thanks.
