What's new

Look at picture, again tasting bad after 10 mins, why does this happen?

Can't comment on width/length but be aware that if the SS has the same number of holes per mm it will be lower ohm than the Wotofo mesh. Regardless of the mesh used wicking with enough cotton is the only way to prevent the hotspots.

I have the same RDA and gave up on the pre made mesh coils as they were to hit and miss.

I bought a roll of SS316 mesh wire made by vandy vape and it works a dream now.

You say that, but if you have tons of cotton, could the hotspots not be because of A, the random quality of the actual mesh? Or B, If the cotton touches, but it’s so packed the juice itself is not touching the coil but a teeny weeny dry bit of the cotton (because it’s so packed in) is touching the coil, so perhaps the cotton will actually burn seeing how quickly that mesh lights up, so it might not be about touching the cotton, but rather the opposite... so too much juice means the cotton overheats? Or simply the quality of the mesh...

This seems like an interesting experiment as the wotofo coils do seem to be hit and miss, and do create some hotspots here and there, especially as I tried packing in the cotton as per other comments so always touches very moist cotton at all times.

1. How do you know how much mesh to cut off do you guess or meticulously measure?
2. Also are the width sizes exactly the same or do you have to cut vertically too?
3. prebuilt wotofo mesh have a small straight edge at both ends to hold into place and possibly conduct better, while obviously the ss wire mess rolls you mention doesn’t have that. Is conductivity just as good and what sort of ohms does your read at as?

P.s on train on the way to the vaping expo in Birmingham now as we speak so well excited ;) Vandy Vape May have a stand there so you never know, may be getting it even today to try soon...

Many thanks.

I cut a piece off the vandy vape roll which I know is too long.

Then place the pre made coil and vandy vape piece of mesh side by side and use the pre made as a template to cut to size.

It usually ohms out around 0.13/0.14 which seems low but with it being SS316 mesh they don’t require a lot of power.

Pack plenty of cotton under (I find a whole strip of cotton bacon about the right width) juice up and enjoy.

Only problem I have found is it’s very difficult to remove the cotton for a re-wick without ruining the coil. So I end up re-coiling every time too.

Hope this helps, enjoy vape expo.

@Dozwold I honestly haven't had the cotton drying out due to overpacking. This thing needs constant juicing. There's a reviewer vid where he soaks the cotton to the point of drowning, then puts the top cap on & squonks till the juice is up to the airholes, let's it sit a minute or two the squonks again because the juice has been absorbed. I do this & then only squonk about as often as I would when using coils, 6-8 pulls & never got spitback or dry hit. I still get the odd dark spot on the cotton but put this down to the vagaries of the wick. I use CB Prime, Fuzz & Muji & they all do it, but never to the point of tasting bad.
@Clifford_vapes you wick the way I do but I put a strip of cotton in first (enough for a 3mm coil) & cut the CB just a shade wider than the mesh, saves trimmimg it. Undo one screw & gently lift the mesh & put the plug of cotton on top of the layer, reallign the mesh & tighten. Trim the layer enough to sit in the well & drown in juice.

This RDA is not for the vaper conscious of how much juice they're using. It's a V8 gas guzzler not an eco friendly hybrid.:D

I've been using mine for over 10 days now, took all the photos for the review and been waiting for the wick/coil to require changing before I can review it properly, both are still going strong.

The 2 critical steps in the build are rolling the mesh properly and obviously the wicking, I had to issues using the supplied Wotofo Cotton and using the coil rod was nice and easy making a perfect arch, the tiniest kink in the rolling will give hotspots.

Looking at your photo it's got cotton sag issues, also I see it's rolled over which indicates to me there's not enough cotton.

Another point is how you squonk it, I squeeze until I see the mesh wet, hold for a couple of seconds and release so even the ears are saturated.

Here's a couple of photos from my build, note the top 'ears' from trimming and they still look like that and white cotton after 10 days.

Hope this helps.

Here's mine, in use for around 2 weeks. The blue one running Welsh custard, a coil gunker is about due for a rewick & the Luxotic has a slight singe because I forgot to squonk while driving but no affect on taste.

Well I have tried everything and packing in the coil seems to work the best. But that brings up another issue. Squonking after a few hours is much much tougher. When fresh, works like a dream every 10 puffs a quick squonk and no problems. After a while, it may need multiple squonks and much longer ones as somehow something gets gunked up, it’s like the under the mesh hole doesn’t seem to work well when cotton is packed and used a bit and only the sides seem to release any juice and also much more slowly. Its hard to know at this stage how much to press the squonk without lifting the rda cap to have a look to see how wet it gets by lifting the cap (which can move the cotton). Get paranoid now with this RDA have now had a few odd dry hits due to squonking issues (use the Topside) and those dry hits are the worst on the mesh, Anyone else has similar issue of squonking being much tougher once cotton is a little more used? I am using Horny juice which is know is gunky but I doubt it’s the juice itself?
