Magnets in mods

HI, I was just wondering if someone could enlighten me on this subject. I intend to use magnets to allow easy access for battery changing etc. However due to the small size of the mod in question, I was

wondering if there was anything I should be aware of, terms of how close the magnets can be to wiring/circuitry. Is there a general amount of space I should leave between said items? Or will the

magnets have no detrimental effect?

Just thought it would be worth asking before I stick a magnet 1 mm away from my PCB and have catastrophic results!

THANK YOU, L

DNA 30 & Magnetic Closure

This is the closest I could find to an answer! Nothing conclusive though :(

I think it should be ok, they have fans on top of the cpu and magnets in the hard drive in computers.

They work well. I made a mod and there was a gap between the 2 magents and it didn;t hold very well.
Getting them to touch is the best way.

Seedy Thanks for the reply mate. I'm having them contact each other. The mount + the side panel.

My worry was having a magnet in close proximity to the SX chip, I was wondering if this could potentially cause problems?!

I can't say for sure as I haven't done it but I don't think it'll hurt unless anyone else thinks it might?
Can you let me know if its OK. It would!d be good to know.
Thanks

This was as I thought, however I found a comment on a similar matter that troubled me....

The magnets in HDDs are close but the magnetism is carefully controlled, if you take into account the way they are mounted to route the magnetic flux where it is required it's nothing like mounting an unshielded magnet close to board or platter

As i'm not completely sure of the components of the sx chip, I don't want to do anything to risk damaging it for the sake of space saving!

Looks like I may have to be the guinea pig on this one Seedy :umm:

The only person that appears to have a build with magnets in close proximity seems to be badaboom. However i'm unsure if this is correct, or even if it is indeed magnets I see within his sx mount!

What say you BaDaBooM?

Ive used magnets in a lot of mods, I think you have to use common sense. The magnets I use are n35 and not super duper strong, also they are small. I can't say 100% that magnets are not going to hurt the chip but I highly doubt it. Only bad thing that has ever happened to me using magnets in mods is that it killed my visa card when I had the mod and card in the same pocket.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2JtwACT9Nsc This is what it takes to kill a computer with a magnet.

Thanks for the response!
