What's new

More Lung Horror

For goodness sake this doesn't need to become a pissing contest for who got which facts where. There are a lot of scare stories out there, some people are worried by them. You can't blame people for wanting to know what's the safest way they can vape. I know many of us here are irritated by the scare stories, but for some it's actually news and makes them question what they're doing. Wherever they read it? Sounds sensible to me?

Yes it's cheaper.

But if you're worried about these things being caused by legit pods and juice then it's not going to be a major improvement.

You still have to buy VG, PG, nicotine juice and flavourings if required - the official juice manufacturers have to get their ingredients from somewhere too, very likely the same supply chain.

So, you're skipping one link in the chain (juice mixers) and introducing a different link (repackers and resellers).

Sure, you can control which ingredients go into your juice, but you can't control what goes into those ingredients...
Yes, you're right. You can at least dodge the worry about it being spiked though. And the suppliers of PG/VG, nic and flavourings are more likely to be licensed big operations with 'reputations' than someone mixing juice in the garage?

I wasn't contesting personally, I was clarifying after the suggestion I got figures from the media...

And the rest, I completely agree - if you're new to it all and the only frame of reference you have is the headlines then yeah, it's worrying. Even my wife's aunt told me t'other day that her doctor informed her she was better off carrying on with her 8-10 cigs a day rather than risk popcorn lung by vaping...

For me, it's down to the content of the opening post and the subsequent responses.

Had it opened more like "I'm worried by the stories, how do I mitigate the risk?" then I would have replied in a completely different fashion, or not replied at all.

You can dodge some of the worry...

The suggestion was made in an earlier post that the problem may lay with the official cartridges and juice. If that's the case, then the spiking is going to be happening at either the ingredients manufacturers or the cartridge and juice manufacturers.

Someone mixing juice in their garage isn't what I'd call 'official' ;)

The big suppliers of the ingredients, the actual stage one manufacturers, aren't going to be selling retail. They'll be supplying wholesalers, who supply resellers, who bottle up stuff themselves - and then they may retail, or they may go through another level of resellers / labellers.

Personally, I reckon it's just as 'safe' to be buying reputable premade juice as it is to be buying reputable ingredients. The premade juices and cartridges are simply swapping that last reseller stage or two.

If anyone is saying that "Dave's joint juice, get high in 3 tokes" is an official source, then I'm obviously out of the loop...

Fair play miss Crew - on the other hand tho, equally important is educating people on the likelyhood of false reporting etc ... knowledge from all sides is the way forward I reckon - then ppl can make their own mind up

I agree. I also think the whole premise sounds unlikely. But if people are concerned and want to feel more in control, for whatever reason, that's fine by me. It's like buying anything, and indeed choosing your sources of information, buyer beware. :)

and yet another one from america https://theliberal.ie/american-teen...after-vaping-causes-catastrophic-lung-damage/

maddie who is 18 has been vaping for three years and just been placed in a medically induced coma thank to vaping causing catastrophic damage to her lungs and pneumonia

oh, but shes out of hospital now but still needs oxygen. then it goes on to mention the other 200 people.

1. dont they have to be 21 in america to buy vape gear. even if its 18 she is 18 but been vaping 3 years.
2. induced coma. its not something they pull you out of and then let you go home. you are in itu/icu for weeks.
3. no mention of the dodgy thc/spice that is being used in most these cases
