Hey Paulie and welcome.
I was completely bewildered by everything too very recently. I'm still a complete novice but have found my way a bit. I'm probably stating the obvious here but you'll need some battery power, something to put on the end to convert your liquid to vapour, and some eliquid or ejuice. Plus some spare stuff in case of breakdown etc.
Batteries - It seems no matter which type you go for they'll need replaced after a couple/few months usage. The eGo ones I've seen have the eGo style threads and the 510 threads so are compatable with most burners.
At the low end you can go for bog standard eGo style. The 650 mAh ones will last about a day unless you're chain vaping. They'll probably need recharged for night time tho. They're quite small if that's important to you. The higher the mAh the longer you'll get before a charge but they're bigger.
For a few quid more you can get the entry level variable voltage (VV) eGo style batteries like the eGo twist or the spinner. Slightly larger, like for like, but with the benefit of "cranking up" your smoke if desired.
Then there's the top end VV in various guises like the Vamo, lavatube, etc. Basically these are fancy "battery holders" which take regular looking rechargeable batteries. They're more clever so you can mess about with voltage, wattage and ask it what ohms your burner is at etc. They're generally bigger than eGo style but some can be used in "short mode" with an appropriate battery. You'll need separate batteries and a charger if you don't buy as a kit. Perhaps cheaper in the long run as the rechargeable batteries can be cheaper.
Burners/atomisers/cartomisers/clearomisers/tanks etc - As a beginner go for something fairly simple but easy to replace as they'll go on the blink too. The Kanger Evod, Kanger T3, Vision Vivi Nova, Vision Mini Vivi Nova seem to be popular choices. The Kangers have a bottom atomiser so they're a cooler smoke and you don't need to occasionally turn it upside down to soak the wick. The Novas have top wick and are warmer. There's around a 50/50 on who prefers what. You can replace the part on each that wears out for a couple of quid instead of £5-£6 for a new one.
Juice - Ready made or make your own. It's all basically the same stuff so you can mix six of your flavours together if you like, even from different manufacturers. There can be different amounts of ingredients in each one to give you more throat hit or more vapour. Making your own doesn't seem too difficult. Buying ready made can be expensive if you hate the first £50 worth of flavour and need more.
So - If you're a "potter about" kinda guy/gal (sorry but Paulie could be either) then go for a decent VV battery setup cos you'll go that way anyway eventually. Pair it with a couple/few £5-£10 burners and see what you prefer. Get the kit and try making your own juice.
If you're not a "potter abouty" then I'd still go for the entry level VV paired as above and buy ready made juice.
I hope that doesn't come across as condescending or patronising - it's meant to be helpful
