What's new

NHS Covid-19 app

I like the qr scan, and the app seems to go easy on the battery as well, but can it see through walls? People next door can be less than 2 metres away.
Not sure how strong bluetooth is tbh but it would give you a location and a time so I'm pretty sure you'd know if it was on about the next door neighbour.

Grrr...
Another fucking thing I have to add to my list of backed into a corner with no smartphone cobblers.
Had a bellyful of this earlier today... Amazon wouldn't let me log in without tapping a link in a text message on my old Nokia mobile... since it's not a smartphone and has no "Tap" function I was Catch-22ed to buggery... ended up manually typing a hundred letter long URL into my desktop browser.
Fuck Apps.
Sorry.
Grumble.
Piss.

I think I saw something mentioned a few weeks back on the BBC Click program that there's supposed to be something in these apps that makes them go by the strength of the bluetooth signal so walls would mean people on the other side wouldn't be detected as being within 2 metres.

does it harvest your data?

They seem to be making a big effort to emphasize that they're very focused on protecting privacy. I didn't have to enter any personal data into the app apart from the first 3 characters of my post code.

I'm sure all the conspiracy theorists will make up some bolloks about it harvesting other data from your phone but I'm not swayed by all the nutjobs who make up fake news.

Samsung devices received this security update july of 2019, its cve 2019-2252.

So if u have gotten one of those samsung security update screens that popup since then and you did it, you should be ok

(I searched thru tho aosp/samsung security patches to double check it was included)

Edit: that name is so hilarious
(Its actually pretty minor compared to some of the stuff i saw)
