What's new

Nick Clegg hasn't read the TPD

No surprise there ... but don't you also feel that half the forum members here haven't read it either?

Maybe so, but I doubt many of the forum members have significant sway over the legal future of this country.

Twat springs to mind!!! But in a Nice way!!!:hmm:

That's one of the words people standing at the village bus stop yell.

I see it as a term of endearment, like the little gifts of dog excrement they share with me through the air.

Oh how we laugh.

Village life is so Quaint isn't it, It's like that where I live, A real sense of Community Spirit!!! People are in and out of each others Houses with each others Property all Day Long!!! ( Before you say it, yes it is pinched from Monty Python )

But then most here aren't high profile vapers currently working as the second to the PM...

Maybe so, but I doubt many of the forum members have significant sway over the legal future of this country.
Two points follow then ...
1. vapers are classless, coming from a cross-section of society, and awareness of the TPD is low
2. maybe Nick Clegg has a lot less sway over our legal future than you think

I'm not saying that he is able to make things happen by himself. However he is undeniably a prominent politician and the leader of one of the main political parties.

... that's true, so what is your point?

Yeah but weren't they up in arms about banning it in the house of lords? Maybe he just has no clue what's going on generally.

I hope he's using a third gen device, it sounds like he's had a mini revelation with vaping, as a lot of people do, so the threat of the EU taking that away hopefully spurs some consideration or action further up the food chain.

@scrumpox...

I'm new to vaping , 10 days and counting and only seen the political coverage since joining here.
This TPD , is it a European thing and if so would our own politicians have any say on it?
I'm not a politician, nor am I a lawyer. I'm just a bloke who vapes and needs to get my head around stuff that affects me.

As I understand the EU, the member states agree and are bound by Treaties. This sets the legal framework and the objectives of the EU. Legislation under the Treaties can be regulations, directives, decisions etc and these can differ in how member states may implement them or require additional implementation by each national legislation body. I've just looked up the difference because I didn't know. :)

This is a regulation and regulations "are directly applicable and binding in all EU member states without the need for any national implementation decision." To me that means when passed it becomes law throughout the EU, without requiring the additional consent of individual member states and is subject to the European Court of Justice and not a national court system.

Would our own politicians have any say on it? Yes, our MEPs do. But Westminster politicians don't once the regulation forms part of EU law. MEPs do belong to political parties of course so they can decide how their MEPs vote. Because it's a regulation, our MPs can say "don't blame me, blame the EU".
