I think it's hard to judge comparisons. You can get milk at almost half what you quote, but other set ups (like the NHS and not having to pay for health) make the playing field less level. In Eastern Europe under (and just after) communism the wages seemed ridiculously low (to me from the 'West') ............ but then you realised local travel and utilities were incredibly cheap in comparison to ours. I'm not saying they were well off, just that it's not easy to compare directly? Can i ask the brits here a question actually?
Do u think of the value of an item differently because your money is worth so much compared to a dollar or a euro?
Like someone here mentioned £30,000 as a good salary. I believe that equates to £15 per hour. (Or at least here thats what the numbers work out to in the states)
Anything less than $20-25/hr here and u r struggling if u have kids or anything.
How much is a gallon of milk there? Here it is about $4
A reasonable monthly cell phone bill is $40-45.
A 1 bedroom apartment is gonna b about $750-1000/per month
Comparing rents is hard too - doesn't sound that dissimilar to me (not too far from London) but is likely to be less elsewhere.
