What's new

Post Shopping Processing

It's something like 3 days on plastic and stainless steel. Up to a day on paper / cardboard.

It feels anal doing it tbh, but my other half has Lupus which is potentially extra vulnerable, and even though I'm not particularly vulnerable, I don't fancy getting the fucker.

I don't wash the packaging, just wash my hands well with soap and hot water after handling it. Hand sanitiser the minute I get out the shop as well.

Cleaning loose fruit and veg hasn't been a problem because I'm Scottish but if I ever encountered such a thing then a scrub with hot soapy water and a good rinse should do it.

Soap is apparently very effective at knackering the stuff that holds the virus together.

Just found this: https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2020/apr/04/how-long-does-coronavirus-live-on-different-surfaces

Apparently cardboard is the most risky because it is easy to adhere to. Other than that, just wash your hands after you've touched the packaging.

"I would recommend that any time something new comes into your household, be conscious of washing your hands after handling it.

The [virus’s] stability is pretty good on the cardboard. Once you get those packages, open them, quickly throw away the cardboard, wash your hands, and try to avoid touching your face. Take any measures that you can to minimize contact from the surface of the package to your face."

It certainly makes sense but have not done it myself so far

You don't think it is actually safer then?
Oh yes. What ever you bring into the house may or may not have the virus on. You've just got to make your own mind up how far you want to go. I clean my hands, car door handles, steering wheel, gear knob etc. with a dettol wipe after every time I come back from a shop. Put the shopping away and wash my hands again. When we take stuff out the cupboards to use, once opened or prepared or whatever, wash hands again.

Unfortunately I'm still working and mixing with people so I figure handling items that have more than likely been in the cupboard for a few day's is the least of my worries.

My wife makes me, I use iso alcohol in a perfume atomiser spray bottle thingy. I also have to wash my coat with hot soapy water, wash my boots and gloves, wash the panniers / other shopping bag paraphernalia.

Edit: I forgot, I also have to wash my motorbike handlebar grips, the seat and foot pegs.

Thoroughness, I like it :)
