Ready to buy some mesh and wire... but which?

I mainly use 50/50 or 70/30 pg/vg and my current stalwart device is a SS Vamo. I know that a Vamo has issues with any resistance below 1.2ohm and in all honestly, that sounds incredibly low to me anyway. Of course that all might change when I get into this RBA malarkey.

I've been looking on meshcompany.com as they have a great price on mesh I plan on turning into insect screening so it would be great to get it all in one order. Of course if someone had a better place in mind to do the buying I would love to hear about it. I don't mind getting a few different kind of wire and mesh if that is going to work out best in this learning period.

What range of mesh and wire should I be looking at to get going? I've got my eye on a cooks torch and I want to try the pulse method as well but is there anything else I should get in preparation? Helping hands would be useful?

I have to say I've used mesh from the mesh company and found for vaping it was quite hard to work with. It was quite brittle, didn't like being coiled and felt a little dirty (made my juice seem tainted after a short amount of time). I highly recommend stealthvape for mesh and all other rebuildable supplies. It's lovely clean stuff and I get far less hot spots and general other issues that are really annoying when you just want to get on with having a nice vape. Although the mesh is a little more expencive, I didn't need to change it so in the long run its way cheaper. I'm still using the same wick about 2 months down the line where the mesh company stuff needed changing nearly every week!

I see. Well that has certainly given me a bit of a shove in the right direction. I better head over and have a look at stealth vape. Thanks very much.

Stealth vape looks to be just the ticket!

How would a Kanthal A1 sampler pack and #400 mesh sound for a start with a 50/50 mix and aiming for 1.8 ohms or something in that area? The resistance thing isn't really set in stone, I just can't go lower than 1.2 and I don't want to be much over 2.0 at all.

Thanks again.

EDIT: ....or just scratch the sampler pack of Kanthal and get 5m of 0.20mm?

Couldn't have chosen better myself. It's always hard to recommend wire as we all have different tastes and style. 400 mesh should be fine, I swear by the stuff!

Great. I'm going to go with the sampler and 400 mesh. Fingers crossed I don't nob it up too much and waste all the lovely mesh!

You will use more at first. Even if you make the perfect wick and coil first time it is a natural human reaction to try it again to see if you can pull it off-and that's when it goes tits up :D

I have tried setting up using first from the mesh company its ok but you will be tackling hotspots for longer. Then used stealthvapes marine grade mesh, one hotspot to deal with (prob user error) now vaping like a dream. I have no doubt that the quality of mesh is significant in the setup of your wick, you may pay more money but you get less fuss and better tasting vape.

My mesh and kanthal arrived today. So there was some excitement mixed with fear!

I'm still waiting on my blowtorch arriving but I have a gas cooker. Will the cooker do the job just now or would I be best waiting on something more controllable and suited to the job? I'm in no real rush, I'm just eager to try.
