So Ale V4 has landed and I'll say straight off the bat, it's nearly there!
Not been out to test with anyone else yet except me and Mrs Chris K but delighted with it so far.
So after the vileness that was V3 I got slightly disheartened (Yes, it was that bad) so forgot about this mix for a few days and worked on an older recipe still. Decided I'd revisit it though but bin V3 altogether and go back to work off V2.
Brown sugar was left at same level as V2, Bourbon was moved up by a tiny amount but everything else was put up between 0.2ml and 0.6ml. Also added a caramel at low percentage and a dark chocolate. Stuck away in a dark cupboard and shaken daily along with a couple of 1 hour sessions in my heated ultrasonic cleaner. After 5 days, thought I'd give it ago...
Well, it's there! Has a multiple level of flavours, I reckon a 50/50 version in a Hastur or True Tank would really make this liquid shine. I've tested it on a Soul S RDA.
It reminds me of an ale I had numerous years ago, so many I can't remember name but it was an IPA that was then left in old Whisky Casks. V3 has a deep woody note to it, the alcohol note pushes through though with a light sweetness of Bourbon on the after taste that lasts about 10 minutes after using it! The Hops are certainly there and blend nicely with the wood.
This liquid is close enough to exactly my aim. I think a slightly longer steep may dull the Bourbon off a touch (But I actually like it!) but would bring it far closer to a 'normal' ale.
Will be making a V5 but the only change I think I'll make is to lower the Bourbon by as little as 0.1ml, no matter what though, I will be making V4 for myself!
