New forum user so big hi to everyone!
I've been vaping for nearly ten years now and make my own juice (need a change of recipe though as it's making my mouth 'sting' nowadays) but I'm far from expert!
My question is, due to cost and unreliability of commercial coils, I want to start making my own.....this is where I need your help if you'd be so kind.
I vape at a low 10 watts, 0.8ohms MTL using a Voopoo DragX. It's been pretty good but hate the way the tank (magnetic) is soooo keen to just drop off at the slightest excuse!

1> Is vaping at such a low wattage (and at 0.8ohms) viable in regards to making my own coils??
2 > If so what do I need in terms of wire (keeping it as simple as possible) and cotton (shoestring?)......seen coil making tool kits on Amazon (ceramic tweezers etc) I could purchase of those.
3> And the BIG question.....what would be a suitable (reasonably cost effective) 'buildable' platform with adjustable airflow??? (I have a few flathead 'Efest' 3000 mAh 35A 3.7V batteries I use in the DragX)

Many, many thanks for any advice or help offered. This really is a minefield for a complete newbie to try and navigate! :)

Cheers
Bob

Hi and welcome.
Yes 0.8ohms @ 10w is fine.
I vape around 0.8-0.9ohms and wrap 8 times 28g 3mm internal diameter.

A build kit from Amazon would be a good start along with a pack of labo puff cotton pads.

Have a read of the below link for build guides and come back with any questions.

For wattage vaping there's kanthal, ni80 and stainless steel wire, they're all cheap so you could try all 3 and see which suits. Have a look at a coil wrap calculator as the # of wraps varies for a particular resistance by the type of wire.

There are lots of cotton available and folks on here have their favourites, I use BP Mods cotton, it comes in a tub either 2.5 or 3mm diameter so you just snip the length you need. As for a tank there are quite a few mtl rtas out there so have a look, one of the easiest to build on with very good flavour is the Bishop and the new Hellvape Dead Rabbit mtl rta 2 looks a good choice for a newbie as it comes with just about everything you need to get started.

Once you`ve decided on your atty take a look on www. steam-engine.org, it`s a mine of information on wires, coils etc, my only other advice is try not to brand shop, there are some shockingly expensive bits of kit on offer but it`s only what comes out of the drip tip that keeps you off the fags and a 20 quid dead rabbit is as good as something costing 5 times as much at doing that, persist and you will be rewarded.

Thanks guys, much appreciated!

My next question was gonna be 'which RTA tank and box mod' but I think I'll lokk at what's already been mentioned :)

Thanks again :)

(Oh, nearly forgot, what do you do whilst building the new coil? Keep your old vape back till the process is finished....or deosn't it take that long??)

Cheers

Think I'll go for the Hellvape Dead Rabbit MTL RTA V2......can anyone recommend a reasonably priced box mod to go with this? Bearing in mind I only vape at 10W (and have a few 3000mAh flat top 18650 batteries I'd like to use)

I doubt anyone on here only has 1 vape but yes, like most things it doesn't take long once you've got the hang of it.

There are youtube vids on all aspects of coil building (and dry burn cleaning) have a look around on there, before long you will have vape gear coming out of your ears so finding something to suck whilst you`re crafting your latest masterpiece wont be a problem.
V101 are as reliable as any for any purchases you need to make.

Hi guys, thanks for all of your suggestions!

Been advised by V101 (good and very fast support!) to couple the dead rabbit with a DotMod DotBox 100w Mod....all set I think, wish me luck :)
