OK, before everyone has a heart attack, keep in mind that this stuff has been around for the greater part of the last 20 years. No ones died and no doctor has ever attributed a single health issue to vaping, with or without evidence.
So calm down
Silica wick is widely used because it has such a high melting point, meaning that our little coils which only heat PG and VG up to the point of vapourization (roughly 60-80 degrees Fahrenheit give or take a few degrees) and silica doesnt even begin to melt until 1700 Celsius
Do the maths
There IS a concern over particles but they are microscopic and must be inhaled in super large levels in order to be harmful to our breathing. Meaning, you have got to be breathing in a super concentrated level of these microscopic particles for the better part of 24 hours at least on a consistant daily basis for a very long time (medical terms is at least a year) Which you aren't even close to doing. We are also NOT dealing with microscopic particles even when we cut the silica. There may be some dusty type particles, which can be blown away. In all reality, once the wick is wet, are ANY of us inhaling so hard on our ecigs for 24 hours a day that we are sucking in massive amounts of silica particles? Probably not.
Now Dr K. Farasalinos has said somewhere on FB in a post asking a similar question, that he would weigh Organic cotton would be the better choice. But then that falls heavily on the shoulders of the vaper to be vigilant in hygiene and changing wicks regularly to avoid mold ect. Any lack of concern, could mean you get ill... then someone WILL blame vaping, when it actually falls to the end user.
I tried cotton, I didn't like it. Too much fiddling about. I am confident the wick I get from stealthvape is the best available and that he cares enough about his customers versus making a quid, that he is honest and finds the best for us. I'll stick with silica.
