Starter device help

Thanks everyone for the suggestions.

I'm still very, very confused as to how an EGO differentiates from a MOD? Is it a personal vaporiser as described on the Wiki? Would this still need the atomiser (and is this possible) over time?

I'm ideally looking for a one time device that I can get a few spares for with some advice when the time comes. So long as it's good build quality and is going to last, I'm not fussed about the technical side of it all. Just reading through the comments, I'm completely lost, :(.

I think what I'm looking for is described as a personal vaporiser in the Wiki. Could anyone confirm this and if this would allow say replacable batteries whereby I could carry 2-3? I can easily carry these into work and if I was out, say down the pub, it's no problem tucking these inside my jacket.

In relation to the liquid, I believe the bottles are 10ml? How many puffs does this provide / am I going to need to carry the liquid with me?

I'm in a way after one device that I can get to grips with and play around with different flavours at the moment. If someone would be so kind as to describe the workings of that particular type of vaporiser too, that would be greatly appreciated. As in what I'll be able to adjust with it. I don't mind spending even more than my budget if it's exactly what I'm looking for and will get the job done.

I'm sorry if my lack of knowledge is making it hard for you guys to explain things to me :(

I've come across this: http://myepack.co.uk/review/product/list/id/748/category/20/#review-form after following another link given above.

I understand this comes with the 'clearomiser' which is an atomiser and a clear cartridge into which eliquid is placed into, correct? Id this adequate for my needs? As for the voltage settings on it, could I leave those alone at first then have a tweak once I've researched them / feel comfortable I have the knowledge? Would this be classified as a mod or a personal vaporiser? I sort of understand that a mod allows for a multitude of cartirdges, atomisers and batteries, correct?

I still could do with some help as to the PV vs mod distinctions though

mod just meeds it can be modified.. i wouldnt read to much into it to be honest.. they all do the same thing. the only difference is basic e cigs ( the ones that look like cigs , have zero configuration , then egos have a removable cart or clearo ( difference is simple, carto takes plug in carts with juice already in them ( think fountain pen ) clearomizers are clear and you fill them up with juice. Basic clearos are throwaway after a month or so as they have no reaplaceable parts. then you get tanks. which are like clearos but you can change the wick when it gets a little "old" and some you can take apart and wash out and clean.

then you have the battery side., ego batteries are self contained units. a few have variable voltage but quite basic normally a dial or multiple button push to give 3-5 voltage settings. these tend to be charged via usb

Mods can be electrical like the vamo above in that you can strip it down, change the battery inside, even change the electrics inside if need be. they tend to have a display where you can change settings such as voltage and wattage or see puff count or ohms
there are then mechanical mods. just a hollw tube that takes a battery.. no electrics at all..

and then you get full mod tanks or rebuildables where you can totally strip them down, make your own coils and wicks etc.. this is prob the most advanced level

so in basic leves

1. throwaway ecigs
2. egos with no settings and basic clearo or carto
3. vari voltage ego with fixed battery
4. electrical mod like vamo where batteries can be removed and charged
mech mod.. takes battery but no settings adjjstment

and for tanks
1. basic throw aways clearo and carto
2 reuseable clearo ( where you can buy the whole wick coil section to replace ) this includes some tanks which are basically larger clearos
3 rebuildables these are fully moddable tanks and drippers where you can strip them down entirely and make your own coils and wicks etc.

hope that helps a bit

Buy 2 variable voltage starter kits rather than a spare battery. You will need a second clearomizer in a few days anyway and you will have a spare charger.

ok this may help

tanks and clearo and dripper.jpg these are different types of tanks clearomizer and a dripper all do same job but some better than others that hold the juice/liquid

vv vw mech mods.jpgthese are all PV's going from left to right VV/VW and 2 mech in large 18650 battery and small 18350...

I don't have a ego for the pic but we all know what there like :)

Hopefully that clears up some of your question

i can help here
first ego pic.. from left to right

9687771432_c30aaee0c8_c.jpg

left is basic ego with a ce5 clearomizer. the ce5 you can unscrew the bototm and bu replacement wick/coil section
middle is kamry x6. 3 voltage settings and takes the normal ego and 510 connection tanks and clearos. that has a vivi nova on it. which again comes apart and you can replace the wick/coil section. its basically just a bigger version of the ce4-ce5 clearo. The ce4/5 holds about 1.ml of liquid, the vivi nova holds 3.5ml.
as for how much you need.. thats down to how much you vape. im an all day vaper and get through 5-8ml a day. Bottles of juice come in all sizes from 5ml samples, 10 10ml, 30ml, 50ml. 100ml and ive even see recntly a 500ml bottle!

on the right is another ego but this is the ego -c. only difference between this and the left one, is to charge the one on left you have to unscrew the clearo and put on on the usb charger shown at the bottom of the pic. the ego-c you unscrew the bottom and it has a usb mini port so can plus normal usb cable straight in and charge it off laptop and smoke while you charge.

OK - a PV is just an e-cig, and can be any of the set ups we've described.

I think we're all agreed that, given your requirements and budget, you won't want/need a cigalike (ones that look like ordinary cigs), so what you are looking for is at least one battery and at least one tank/clearo (these things have verious names, but are essentially the same thing, though the way it works may differ slightly).

The term Mod tends to be used to describe any of the tubes that take removable, rechargeable batteries. These require separate chargers and the batteries themselves can be replaced when exhausted. Most have variable voltage, variable wattage and an ohm meter (for checking resistance of coils - essential if you're recoiling your own tank coils). I couldn't advise you on the pros & cons or any further specifications, as I've never owned one.

The most common battery for the newcomer is the Ego
Egos.JPG
(pictured is a set of Egos of 1100mah, 900mah and 650mah)
These come as fixed voltage (I believe around the 3.7v mark), or variable voltage (i.e. the Ego Twist). Fixed voltage is a little more limited, as you can find that higher ohm heads don't vape too well on a lower voltage. Most tanks I have up to 2.6ohm seem to vape OK with them, but the Twist does offer more flexibility. I have one Twist and 3 fixed and use them all (but favour the Twist).

There's also the itaste vv v3.0, which offers something inbetween.
Itaste.JPG
It's still a contained unit, like the Ego, but offers variable watttage as well as variable voltage and also has an ohm meter (pictrured is the itaste with a CE5 tank)

Personally, I think Ego Twist is your best bet (ideally 2 of them - a spare for charging)

Tanks/Cartos/Clearos
The newcomer tends to start on the CE4 (looks much like the CE5 pictured with the itaste, but doesn't come apart). Personally, I think anyone who takes to vaping quickly recognises its limitations and wants to upgrade, so I tend to suggest newbies skip the CE4 step and go straight for a better tank. CE4 is a fixed unit with top coil and long wick. A decent one works well, but when the coil goes, you have the chuck out the whole tank and get a new one. I've also had problems with them, such as a few where the centre post has been slightly off-centre, allowing the juice to leak easily into the drip-tip (mouthpiece). I also bought a set of 6, none of which provided sufficient vapour. It's been suggested they may have been too high a resistance for the fixed voltage Egos, but they worked no better on the twist - so if that was the problem, they must have been far higher ohm than anything else I've owned.

Then there's the rebuildable tanks, such as:
Evod

Seen here on an Ego

Protank

Protank Mini

Protank 2
Protank 2.JPG

All of these are made by Kanger and have interchangeable replacement heads.
Evod.JPG
Seen here with an Evod, when the head dies, you just unscrew the head (middle item in the image) and screw in a new one. You can buy replacements or you can rebuild the head with new wick & wire.

Then there are DCTs, dripping atomisers etc. I like the former, haven't tried the latter.

I still would advise 2 ego twists and at least 2 of any of the above tanks (my recommended would be Evod and/or Protank Mini).
If the Egos don't come with a USB charger, you'll need one of those too, and a wall USB charger plug if you don't have one already.

Then all you need is juice, and you're away
