What's new

(This is it) TPD Regulations 2016

One thing I'm still not clear on, does an atomiser count as a tank? Some forums say yes, they will all have to be no bigger that 2ml (so goodbye Crown, Rafale, the Para tank I've been waiting all year for! etc) others say no, the TPD does not class atomisers like these as tanks, so they are exempt from the maximum size rules.

Can anyone tell me if 5ml refillable atomisers such as these are allowed under the new legislation?

No, because they're a tank. But it depends on two things.
Firstly if said tank is labelled up as 'not for use with nicotine dispensing devices' or words to the effect of how can they stop you? It doesn't contain nicotine when it's new does it?
Secondly who the hell is going to enforce all this? A government trying to cut its spending from here, there and everywhere taking on thousands of new staff just to fine people for selling pieces of glass and metal that might be a tank and might be used to dispense nicotine containing liquid? The softened version of the TPD already indicates the British government largely disagrees with it.

So in short you'll still be able to get any hardware you like in my opinion. It's juice that's going to become tricky if you want to buy it with a nicotine rating.

Thank you Europe. Roll on June.

Something like 1800 hours to process a certificate at a cost of a million dollars per item/flavour. Good old USA.

I work for a US based liquid company. We were at Vape Jam where I met @junglist. We're screwed in the long term here in the US. We'll have between 12-24 months to figure things out, but there's no way anyone except big tobacco will be able to afford the costs associated with the certificates. We're actually in the process of just cutting ties with the US market and focusing on the EU. In our minds, the TPD requirements are much more relaxed than what we're looking at here in the US.

Our biggest worry after May 21st is importing juice. We've had issues before of juice getting seized at customs in certain countries that don't allow importing of e-liquids, and when we're sending 10,000 bottles at a time, that's a huge amount of product to be lost, to the tune of $100,000 in lost revenue. We're gladly going to pay the $8-10k to get our flavors cleared in the EU if that means we'll be able to do continue to do business.

My advice for consumers: get with your favorite shops and have them talk with their distributors for US based liquids. Make sure they are going to have a large quantity of liquid in stock before May 21st, so they can sell normally to retail stores before November's date arrives.

Or (no offence mate) support your UK artisan juice makers ;)

There's a shop in my local shithole seaside town that sells a whole manner of "medicinal" paraphernalia including seeds. This practice has been taking place for as long as I can remember because apparently it's not illegal to sell the individual items but it is illegal for them to be used or cultivated (in regard to the seeds).

So why not just do this with vaping gear? Sell each component of a "tank" separately and, as a double whammy, mark each item as a novelty. No potential to "harm" anyone nor make the items appealing to the bin lids.

Traders could sell whatever size glass tanks they wanted in their individual parts. Chimneys, coils, drip tips, etc. Break the price down evenly (maybe even charge a very small % more for inconvenience) and Bob's your Aunty.

Perhaps it's a bit of a naive perspective on a solution, but couldn't this be a work around?

What about cotton and wire? I presume all that jazz will still be golden?

I signed the 100k. I'm pretty sure there were around 80k+ signatures when I signed it. What happened there? Sabotage? [emoji33]

Actually stricktly TPD classes ecig as ..device or "any part of it"...which allows you to inhale nicotine blahblah its just government who doesnt class cells and other bits the same.
