Vape Tax.. we all knew it was coming

They of course will never reach a 100% smoke free population, but if we go by another country as an example..
Such as Australia. When I lived in Australia smoking was something many, many did. Cigs were cheap. You could get a box of 50 Horizon cigs for about £3 in the late 90's. Now (my dad still lives there) a pack of cigs costs about £25 and hardly anyone smokes. You just don't see smokers anymore and it's not something many seem to do. Of course there's a small minority and likewise, they'll probably never reach 100% smoke free. But they've made efforts to bring the number of smokers down to a minimum and it's worked. If that tactic worked there then there's no reason it won't work here. So people will either quit or find an alternative, such as vaping.

I agree it's ridiculous to clamp down on vapers. Sure, come down on the packaging that attracts kids etc. But they wanted less people to smoke and that's happening, but don't fuck us up with the safer alternative that we've found.

As has been said. This is literally about money and them trying to plug that gap they're losing from tobacco tax.

1.5%. that's a joke, right?

I know a few people who regularly smoke weed, including a couple who spend around £300 a week on the stuff. Not to mention all the occasional smokers who enjoy the odd spliff.

not sure how you knowing a few people who smoke relates to the percentage of people in the country who do. or how much they spend.

1.5% if the population is quite a lot of individual people.

would the 1.5% smoking spliffs be considered the 5% to be smoke-free zou

personally i don’t think so, but @MarylinC37 made the connection. although many spliff smokers are addicted to tobacco because they sprinkle some in there. i think it was definitely a gateway to smoking (tobacco) for many, myself included.

When it comes to vaping this "smokefree" tag is just a psychological issue because people can't tell the difference between cigarette smoke and vapour so they get all scared because of "passive smoking".

I just did a quick search on "passive vaping" and look what was at the top of the search results from the government Health Security Agency.

I didn't mention any numbers Zou, you did.

I made the connection that smoke from spliffs should also be considered when people talk about "smokefree" seeing as passive smoke from a spliff is a lot worse than even cigarettes.

the 5% was an inherent part of the conversation. i mentioned you for the reason you say, because you think cannabis should be included in the smoke free thing. you could add all the other drugs that people smoke too. but i think the gov’s plan is specifically about tobacco.

Oh bless. I'm delighted for you. :)

You think you've found another excuse to troll the boards with another critical, negative post to see if you can start another little flame war.

Good on you mate. :2thumbsup:

i’m not sure why you think i am trolling. but if you can’t participate in a discussion where other people might disagree with you or state different opinions, without resorting to condescending comments you might think about putting me on ignore. if you only want to have discussions where everyone agrees with you, why not lock yourself in the toilet? :)

Good morning to you too @zouzounaki

Oh, I'm sorry. Being polite to people isn't really your forte is it?

You are well known for being the one person we can normally rely on to be at the centre of most flare ups on the board. Maybe it's to do with your particular talent for trying to entertain yourself by following people around the board trying to pick holes, having little digs and generally doing your best to piss people off because it gives you a laugh.

So far there has been 160 posts on this thread where everyone else has managed to have a polite, friendly conversation and offer there particular view in a friendly respectful manner . . . except YOU.

You have all the diplomacy of a cricket bat in the face.

Maybe it's time you stopped trolling the board with all your whingey, negative, critical comments that you're so famous for and tried learning to be a bit more friendly and polite to people.
