So, I'm coming to the end of the wire that came with the coilmaster kit, and trying to decide whether to keep with wire and building coils myself, or go with pre-built coils. but I have no idea about different types of coils really, do they affect flavour etc...
your mission, should you choose to accept it... is to educate me with your thoughts

I don't know what kind of vape you like, but personally I'd stick with wire and building your own. Most of the work is in fitting the coil, not winding it, and that way you can more economically learn about what difference an extra wrap, or one wrap less, might make to your vape. Wire is cheap. I'd start with a similar wire to what you're used to and work on from there, but I'm sure there is plenty of advice here. :)

Yeah, it's just 24ga kanthal wire. when I first vaped years ago I always used the kanthal coils from Innokin and never had any issues with them as I've seen with some and nickel wires

It depends on the atty you are building on:-

For a high power DL tank it may be worth buying tubs of pre-made coils if you intend to be using bulky highly complex coils, but many fairly complex coil wires like claptons/fused claptons/staples etc are easy to find in 10 to 15ft spools If you know you like a certain type of complex coil it makes sense to buy spools rather than a tub of 10 as a spool can make 30 to 40 coils. Personally I wouldn't use round wire builds on high power DL atties - I find the increased cotton coverage of complex wires give better flavour in cloudy DL vapes.

If you are using low wattage MTL then I recommend you go for a spool of round wire - it makes no sense to buy pre-made round wire coils as they are so easy to diy. I have tried a few 'fashionable' MTL Staple and Fused Clapton wires and, although I got good results, I'm not convinced it was actually any real improvement over a simple round wire build.

Me too, usually kanthal, though much thinner gauge as I only vape MTL. :)

In that case, try Stealthvape - excellent quality and service, and maybe start with trying 26AWG as well, lots of people seem to like it ...... but the fun and learning is in the trying.

Steam Engine is your friend for working out your builds ......... in case you don't know.

The more you learn to do yourself, the less dependant you are on suppliers.
