Forgot about switch.
I would have insert within top of mushroom i suggested, that was upside down top hat shape.
Then at bottom inside pipe have dell ring on a spring that prevents battery from touching a pin on the base.
When top insert is pushed it moves battery down on to pin.
As far as - connection at top, just a plate inside top that has an opposing plate on top of pipe that makes connection when you tighten up top.
Hard to explain but this gives you an idea to get you started.
