Boris Johnson defends charging foreign NHS staff fees for service even though 'they saved my life'

Sorry man - but I don’t agree with you

had he singled out a race for it then yes but he has not.

This is about non nationals - not race. demonstrably.

A lot of those non nationals could be any colour or creed - in the same way that many of the NHS workers that are entitled to get free healthcare and many colours and creeds.

This is simply inter-country red tape - it is not racism.

Let me clear - I’m not disagreeing with your point here - merely the language you are using to put it across.
Fine hair splitting there. That's still racism, I'm afraid.

That’s not hair splitting at all it’s demonstrably got bugger all to do with race and everything to do with how the government wants to deal with non nationals working in the service - regardless of what colour or creed they are.

I would suggest your personal definition of racism is somewhat over encompassing.

Off topic a little, but a FB friend of mine posted this picture a while back and i said it was a bit 'Goodness, gracious me'.I only meant that it put me in mind of the characters in the show who try to out do each others 'Britishness'.

He called me out as racist and although i wasn't demeaning their bravery,he had a point.
My point is this, Racism comes in many forms (and a lot of the time when your trying not to be).
Or i might be confusing Racism and Bigotry.

No i'm not, I don't dislike Boris. If i'm honest i'm not up to speed with this news item,i thought in general any one with a currant EHIC card is eligible for 'free' healthcare here.
Saying that any worker putting themselves on the line to help our sick should get 'free' treatment.
Personally i would happily kick any one milking our welfare system out of this land.

mmm, well not everyone who doesn't pay tax is milking, many people in lower paid jobs don't earn enough to pay tax, children and babies don't pay tax.

The point I'm making is that it that access to the NHS isn't based on peoples ability to or the amount they pay in tax, that's not how it works (thankfully or I would be fucked right now) so saying 'They pay tax so they should automatically have access" feels slightly disingenuous to me.

Or hugely over thinking it perhaps?

Was malice intended in what you said ? Of course not - I would suggest you didn’t think things thru properly before you spoke rather than you made a racist comment. A blonde moment possibly rightly deserving of a bit of jibing and a “dude really?” rather than being labelled a racist.

the definition of bigotry is an inability to hear or accept anyone else’s point of view other than your own.

In my experience bigotry is normally indulged in more by people who are calling others bigots than by the recipients themselves.

Hmm,how do you feel about pregnant women from sub Sahara countries being told to fly over here by their doctors to give birth. Then they go back home without paying.
The honest truth is that a NI number is on all NHS forms.
The NHS maybe free of cost at service, but don't assume that it's free of cost.

If they work in healthcare, they do. Which is the subject being highlighted. In many countries you end up with as good, if not better, care than the countries citizens. Its basic respect for those who but their lives in danger to give us healthcare.

decency has deserted this country. It's gone down the sewer along with its politics. Thieves and liars are now valued more than nurses, careers and doctors.

Ah, ok I didn't realise that... thanks for the clarity. I have a few friends who have worked abroad but never in healthcare. I think that's where the difficulty is for me, they didn't get anything for free and I don't think I can argue that the work they were doing was less important than that of a nurse. I just don't see that clear difference I guess.
