Digital scale for mixing

to be honest

in small amounts the difference between 1.036 and 1.04 is nothing

Close enough for me. Wasn't intending to change between the 2, was changing to 1.36 before I saw your edit.
All good though, thanks for your input.
Still can't work out why all I can find says 0.9 ish

your best option is to take a known measurement and weight it ... just to check .. like I say i have known variations

Revert to what @Wyn68 said. No scales will measure in ml as different liquids have different viscosity, so there won't be any scales that have every liquid pre programmed into them.

Viscosity has nothing to do with mass. It's the density that makes the difference. :)

Density was the word I was looking for after a long day at work yesterday! Just couldn't think of it so made it up. Viscosity sounded the poshest ;)

Just for completeness (and to show that I still remember my A levels after a couple of decades) -who new this shit would be of use
Density = mass/volume
Specific gravity = relative density = density of substance / density of reference (usually water)

I've not taken up mixing by weight yet, maybe stick to mls until batches are consistently higher ...
So I've just got the latest version of eJuice Me Up and looked at the grams.
50mls of 60VG/40PG liquid turns out 50grams ... that's not right is it?

Are there default settings for the weight of PG, VG etc which need to be updated?
If so, where?

EDIT - aha, yes, Tools --> Grams Set ... d'oh!!

Hi all,

Been watching various vids on mixing and like the idea of measuring using a digital scale but I'm struggling with finding one that does 2 decimal places in ml.

Anyone got any ideas please?

I got some cheapie scales off ebay for a fiver they have 2 decimal places but only weigh up to 100g. And are a bit slow, but accurate enough and still useful for mixes almost up to 75ml. I got another set weigh up to 500g to 1 dp.

I never measure by volume now. It's so much easier for me to weigh, i just add the drops until i get to weight I want.

If you want anything much better in terms of speed and accuracy you're looking at £100 to £500. I used to work in a lab and we weighed stuff to 6dp, this below is good enough.

I just couldn't be doing with the lack of calibration on some, and the auto shut off function of most the scales available here in the UK or on FT, so ordered some 'American Weigh Scales LB-501' to be shipped from America (still half the price of the equivalents I could find here in the UK).

Amazon.com: American Weigh Scales LB-501 Digital Kitchen Scale: Aws Digital Scale: Kitchen & Dining

They are really popular with people on a lot of US mixing sites, an rightly so, they are a really good bit of kit, with two stage calibration and a AC adaptor so wont auto shut off.

Regards the specific gravity discussion, there is a part in this video where they show you how to measure it for yourself as there will be a variance in different brad VG and PG (even batch to batch, but not enough to make it a issue for home mixing), and your supplier of nicotine should be able to tell you the specific gravity of the nic, as they should have that in the (MSDS) Certificate Of Analysis for each batch, for example my one is 1.198+0.01 (72mg/ml).

Its really worth switching to mixing by weight over volume for the clean up alone.....so much faffing about with syringes gone, now I can mix straight to bottle or Glass Measuring Beaker for big batches I'm going to whack on the Magnetic Stirrer Hotplate to save some steep time.
