Have your say - Creating a smokefree generation

a devils advocate question, cause i wouldn’t really support banning flavours.
but, folk seem to say that banning some of the more “child friendly” flavours would impact adults. is there really anybody that would quit vaping and go back to fags if they couldn’t buy liquid that was blue slushy or candy floss custard biscuit flavour? that seems absurd to me. do people really think this?

I'm still not really clear what they want to do with regard to flavours, it's so vague it's not even funny. I was presuming they were talking about 'skittles' flavour and stuff like that, but who knows?

I don't think it would be as simple as just banning some sweetie flavours.. I think the 3 options on the survey to be potentially allowed were -
• Tobacco only
• Tobacco & mint/menthol
• Tobacco, mint/menthol, and fruit/sweets

This would potentially impact on both new & old vapers...

So they could ban nut flavours? what about boozy flavours like rum and bourbon, would those encourage kids to start drinking? What about spice flavours like Cinnamon and Vanilla?

I can't believe this is even serious, why potentially allow baccy, mint and fruit flavours but ban everything else?

I tell you, some peeps need no excuse to go back to fags.. I know of loads of them.. (I give them friendly abuse when I see them in the street :D)
.. and most of them know better as well (like my colleague's wife, who's just given birth!)

on the first point, we touched on this before i think. if a flavour is called “dark tobacco” and it actually tastes like baccy with nuts, vanilla, caramel etc. who is going to police this? most tobacco flavours don’t taste anything like tobacco anyway.

on the second point, people make choices, smoking isn’t a good one, but if it’s what people choose to do it’s up to them. i struggle a bit with the sort of missionary work crusader stuff people sometimes come out with. i don’t smoke any more, and i like this. but as far as other folk, if i know them well and think there is potential i would encourage them to a point. but as far as the random public, i’m not really bothered whether they smoke or not. i did it myself for long enough and was quick enough to tell anybody that questioned it where to go.

tbh i don’t think they have a clue what they are doing. even if they ban “flavours” in one way or another dark tobacco will suddenly start to taste like a custard biscuit. i think all this will do, if it even happens, is result in a change in naming conventions and packaging.

They could call it 'dark tobacco' and it could taste of chocolate chip cookies.... it's impossible.

I agree they are clueless.

'mild apple tobacco' could easily not taste of tobacco at all ... equally 'mild apple tobacco' could easily become 'mild tobacco #3'

so how is it possible to restrict anything other than the name?

I don't think we have heard anything from the eliquid manufactures on here yet....wonder what their take on it is?
