What's new

Horizon: Dr Michael Mosley

Vaping is a broad church ... he might get a few packs of cigalikes, or duff gear from a garage ... or go balls out with the latest and greatest mods, atties and gormet juices ... thing is, all of them would be valid and representative of vaping and what vapers are doing today. Hopefully the sheer scale and variety of vaping styles, having risen from consumer led phenomenon, will be something he picks up in the programme.
I'm hoping to see a genuine outsiders' view, an educated and informed view for once. Frankly, I'm a bit dismayed that he might already be getting pressure from advocates.

The piece he did last year was nicely balanced and in the most positive, big horizon fan and the guys really good so should be a worthwhile watch

I assume he means ecigarette unless he is actually smoking first to make the comparison. Interesting.

'Epigenetic markers' ? Hmm..

It will be super interesting if he smokes tobacco cigarettes for a while and then vapes for a while and compares the effects on his body from both.

If that was the case then he would have to smoke for while, stop and then take up vaping after a period of time in order to make it worthwhile

I think it's in our nature to pre judge a little and especially where vapers and vaping has been so misrepresented in the past 6 years and partly the point of a discussion thread like this.

This.

Exactly this.

Sadly, past experience has shown that mainstream media cherry picks facts, misrepresents them and deliberately adopts a sensationalist stance (basically, Neuro Linguistic Programming/Applied Behavioural Psychology in action).

It's also worth noting that the vast majority of the 'independent' media is owned by corporate interests that like to push their own agendas and also that the BBC is up for charter renewal in the near future... they are crapping themselves that the charter will be withdrawn or seriously altered, so are somewhat suggestible to the government's own agenda.

It's looking more promising

I was just about to post that up, his journalistic and scientific methods are usually pretty on point and balanced and he is speaking with the right people too. I am going to stay positive about this one as I believe it could be a very good piece when finished.

Anyone not expecting to see a balance with any negative issues portrayed whatsoever is kidding themselves, it's how they are weighed up against equivalent risk or harm and THAT has the power to sway more opinion than somebondy just spouting how great vaping is. People need to see comparison and be informed, humans instinctively want to see negative points before they believe positives.

My inlaws are Telegraph readers so I've just spent another valuable 10 minutes on the topic of bad science and lazy / biased /sensationalist journalism.
This is an exciting prospect and I hope that a good hour long programme can cover the key points. Vaping has nothing to fear from an informed debate.
We're pretty comfortable with the science of vaping, the real issue lies in the politics that surrounds it.

Mmmm, just finished reading about epigentics, cancer epigentics and biomarkers ... seems like the subject there will be the relative cancer risk profiles of vaping and smoking.
