Steamengine is your friend. www.steam-engine.org/coil.htmlHopefully not a stupid question! For example, eyeing up some wire that states the resistance is 1.73 ohms/ft? So any way to calculate what 5 wraps with a 3mm ID would be?

Easier with Steamengine, I'd get a headache doing it that wayWell, pi times diameter equals circumference.
So 3.14 x 3mm = 9.42mm per wrap.
But each wrap will be slightly longer than that, as the thickness of the wire offsets the next wrap, so each loop is slightly diagonal on the coiling rod. So let's just call it 10mm per wrap.
Multiply that by 5 wraps = 50mm.
Add 5mm legs at each end to make a total of 60mm wire length.
A foot is 305mm.
60 / 305 = 0.197 feet
1.73 x 0.197 = 0.34 ohms.

So what answer do you get from steam-engine?Easier with Steamengine, I'd get a headache doing it that way
Depends what AWG/wire type I put inSo what answer do you get from steam-engine?
