What's new

Why do my claptons lose 0.2 ohms when adding half a wrap?

Could it just be that the 0.8 is before you cut the length down by fitting it?

The effective resistive length is between the post clamps/screws.

If you lose 20% length that would take it from 0.8 to 0.6.

Hmm that's interesting, I guess it could be. When I see videos of people building coils they don't seem to have this happen though, like if they use a 1 ohm coil it shows 1ohm after they cut and prep it. Maybe it's just the ones I have (all 3 brands of them).

Not seeing what the fuss is about tbh, but then again, I've never bought anyone else's coils and I do use an ohm reader.

I mean it's not actually an issue, I'm still vaping on the coils just fine, I just wondered if it was something I was doing that could somehow cause the same thing to keep happening no matter which coil, tank or mod I tried them on.

It does make it a little awkward when I want to try new coils, like I guess I vape at 0.6, so do I order 0.8? If I want to try a 1ohm do I order a 1.2? Otherwise though it's not actually stopping me from vaping.

Maybe I should just order a spool. I have lots of spools of regular wire but never had a spool of fused clapton, it always looked like it'd be annoying to wrap myself.

I'd have thought by now you'd have realised all these fancy coils are just a waste of time and money, but hey ho what do I know.

Eh I disagree. I haven't tried fancy coils like juggernauts and stuff but fused claptons give me a much nicer vape than simple round wire. I spent a while trying to get a similar vape from round wire for simplicity's sake but could never get there.

Ever considered flatwire?
Beat me to it.
On @John R recommendation I tried flatwire coils in a dual coil build as a way to enable me to use dual coil builds on single cell mods without having to change batteries twice a day and to my taste the flavour was better than a single multi strand coil. I dont vape MTL so I cant comment on actual one to one comparisons but I think it would be worth a try.

To be fair a lot of people get drawn into the coil hype and don't realise the virtue of decent liquid in the first place.

Hmm no I haven't, flatwire is something that's never even crossed my mind to be honest. I'm definitely up to try it though, I'll have a look for some recommendations for MTL builds. Seems like the flatness might be a little awkward to work with?
