What's new

Is it dangerous to mix your own eliquid?

Longfills are made to the same standards as pre made shortfills where you just add nic shots. Same goes with VG/PG.

As said before - just buy from a reputable source and be scrupulous about the cleanliness of any containers and any tools/stirrers you use and you'll be fine.

The problem with the interwebs is there are many people with an axe to grind and misinformation is rife. They are still casually mentioning 'popcorn lung' ffs, even though it has only ever been contracted by someone in a factory who handled huge amounts of diacetyl on a daily basis - and nobody has ever actually got it from vaping... and diacetyl was removed from our vape jjuices years ago... and when it WAS used it was in miniscule concentrations that didn't actually cause any problems to vapers. But if you read any article on vaping from an anti vaping/protect the children organisation they will still casually mention popcorn lung - even though they know it was debunked years ago. Scare tactics grab peoples attention and helps to sway votes.

I feel safer mixing my own, I know what I'm putting in it.

Using a longfill and nic-shots, isn't even what I would call mixing it yourself.

Whether it 'sounds right' is entirely dependent on what you are trying to achieve. 3x 20mg nic shots in a 250ml bottle is I dunno... less than 3mg final liquid I think, so if you wanted very low nic, then yeah that's fine.
Also yes I kind of agree it’s not even really mixing your own haha - baby steps! I just wanted to make sure it was what we were supposed to not and not going to kill our selves

Hi @Annalise-16 and welcome to the planet.

dont read the horror stories online especially from the daily fail or america as most of the time its total bollox and already been debunked as fake news.

In other words you have bought im guessing a one shot or drop shot kit. hundreds sell these where you get 50ml ready mixed concentrate in a 250ml bottle, usually 4 18mg nic shots to make final mix 3mg strength and a bottle of vg.

the concentrate will be in pg so im not sure of your final mix ratio as with all the ones ive used the nic shots are either 100vg or this one is 50/50 shots.
fruits need a few days to a week steep while custards can take anything over a month before they taste their best.

others that sell these

edit
forgot to ask, what kit are you using and do you mouth to lung at low wattage (like a cig) or direct to lung at higher wattage (like a bong).

your welcome. as yours is a fruit based then there should be no problem vaping straight away but its always worth letting them sit for a while. oh and you do need to shake them until your arm drops off and then a few hours later once the bubbles have settled they should be good to go.
its really totally down to the individual. i mainly vape custards so am used to waiting for upto 2-3 months as i know they will get much better flavour the longer they are left. no fuss for me though as i hve at least 6-8 litres on standby at all times :D

“At the end of the day, DIY e-juice just isn't worth it unless you’re very highly experienced both as a vaper and a chemist! The risks of consuming an e-liquid you’ve miscalculated are high, and can easily land you in hospital. Whether it’s the use of dangerous chemical compounds, the lack of safety protocols and procedures, unsanitary chemicals or bacteria getting into your e-liquid, cross-contamination from other vape juices or a dangerous amount of concentrated nicotine in your e-liquid, there are quite a lot of different safety risks that you’re exposing yourself to when you mix DIY e-liquids.” - https://www.buyv2cigs.co.uk/blog/will-diy-e-liquids-be-banned#:~:text=While we do recommend not,can make you very sick . One example ! I’m a complete worry wart and have anxiety. I know the obvious solution to that is to quit vaping but I also like vaping a lot

yes we should have used pure vg as we forgot to take into account the concentrate being in a pg solution- I just want to make sure I’m not going to end being killing myself trying to save £10 thanks for you input !

those problems can happen - if you treat mixing your own like you were making prison toilet wine, or just guess how much of each ingredient you need and throw in way too much nicotine.

WHen it comes to longfills - you're just combining pre measured ingredients from sealed sterilised bottles so you have no need to be concerned.

Saying you have to be highly experienced or a chemist is total bollox. Anybody that can cook from a recipe and can measure ingredients can mix e-liquid. making your own recipes from individual flavours/ base components can take considerable experience and trial and error before you achieve the flavour you were aiming for - mixing together longfills or shortfills is a breeze because someone with lots of experience has mixed the flavour ratios - all you have to do is combine them, shake to bottle and leave it for a few days to a month to steep/blend.

link is not working for me.
im guessing the link is talking about pure nicotine which can be dangerous if not handled corectly. 72% is what most of us use but this is offically banned in uk for public use and your meant to be only able to buy it with a trade account (but we have our ways) but it cant be discussed on a public forum.
as previously mentioned these are safe to use as long as you buy from a reputable company and not dodgy dave at the market stall as they could of been mixed in his bath with the odd pube thrown in for flavour.
if you get nicotine on your hands then wash them thouroughly but appart from that adding to a shot bottle and filling with vg/pg is safe and what a lot of us have been using for upto a decade.

i think they are just trying to scare people into not mixing their own liquid so you buy it from them. just ignore it, what you have mixed sounds fine. :)

Most of us on here have been mixing our on eliquid for years. it's like cooking your own dinner, you buy the ingredients separately, bung them together and hey presto.
Fancy a takeaway wire in, it will be more expensive cos somebody else cooked it.
