Is SS316L still the go to wire for both standard builds and TC?

No idea mate,
It seems like for Ni80 I would need to get 24 Gauge, this would give me a wrap count of 7 and a half round a 2MM bit to get me to 0.4 Ohms, which should be a nice vape on a mech mod?
Depends on the atomizer, single coil or dual coil. What mech single battery or series?

I tend to usually go for single coil, but most of my RDA's can do dual coil. I have about literally 100 RTA's and RDA's so most atomizers from say 4 years ago and behind that I own. So lets say single coil and dual coil, what would be best?

And I own several single battery mechs, but do also own a Noisy cricket 2 which can run in series or parallel.

I’d probably go for a 3mm with less wraps, 2mm is a bit small (in the RTA/RDA’s I use). But vaping is subjective, so you need to find what works for you :)
I remembered the name, its a derringer RDA I just found one! Where the topcap is so small you have to make the coils small so they don't possibly touch the top or sides which would cause a short, here is one on a mini mech which I used to use for stealth vaping. I need to clean up the RDA but here is the setup, it uses an 18350 battery

For the handmade coil makers Ni80 has pretty much become the standard, if you want anything else it's often a custom job made to order.
Some of my favourite really low ohm mech builds are Ni90

I used to make a lot of my own fancy coils, but after discovering plain wire builds taste just as good I just can't be bothered any more, turns out exotic coils won't make shit juice better. It's just more mass eating batteries quicker.

I hadn't even heard of Ni90 so thank you for your input!

Same here, when I was building I would mess around with dual claptons etc but in the end I was just making plain coils, that I found tasted fine and also needed MUCH less power to run them. I was happy with a 24 or 26G single or dual coil, which saved loads of battery life and also I didn't seem to cane my juice as fast either.
Granted I was making my own juice then so it was cheaper, but still, if you can get a good vape without all the faffing around then why not?

Actually, I have thought of quite a good comparison, if your toaster doesn't need to run on aliens (or whatever the latest coils these days are) then to vaporise some E-liquid I am pretty certain we don't either!
If fancy coils do improve flavour or seem better for some people that is no disrespect to them, but to my taste simple coils are the way to go. Especially with TC, I could never get it to work properly with fancy coils even down to a single clapton, but a single coil of 26G always worked perfectly.

Complex coils do produce more flavour and vapour production, just need to match the mass to atomizer and device.
These are a 20core the flavour and vapour is immense, you need alot of airflow and power though.

For most people low mass fused Claptons are good enough.

I'm not denying that you can tell a difference- I'm just saying for me a coil that has the same surface area against the cotton that can use a thinner wire and less power tastes the same to me.
What do you find tastes better, like does it bring out different flavour notes? I used fancy coils for a long time years ago until I returned to standard coils, I can get a similar vape at 25-30W instead of needing like 80-110 Watts so found the battery life saving to be a big factor.

I thought most folk were using mesh now?
Where I have been out of the loop for so long I don't believe I own anything that can do mesh- wait does mesh need a special RDA or RTA I can't remember?
So unless I buy a great mesh RTA to use it will be standard coils for now.
