Spent 5 years working in RSA in the 80's (pre "Independence"). Lived in Carletonville and worked on the Gold Mines as a Boilermaker; beautiful place to live and work at that time. Not so much now, unfortunately.

Indeed, when you end up living in a country where the AVERAGE daily murder rate is nearly sixty, -even if most of them are indigenous people-, you know you're in the wrong place. There's a lot to be said about 'collateral damage', cuz dead, is still dead, even when it's incidental.

I hear that mate! Even back then one had to take great care after dark, came very close twice at the hands of Tsotsi's and recognised the writing on the wall......was time for a sharp exit
