Leicester faces local lockdown

Its as shit show fella, through my work I have seen the effects of the bedroom tax, bereaved people suffering.... an example was a woman who lost her husband, her 2 lads were moving out, now she could afford the rent, but not the rent plus bedroom tax for two unoccupied rooms, husband was the main and good earner, but since his death she had to apply and rely on benefits.... which meant bedroom tax rules.
Distraught and in poor mental health, she attempted to end it all.
The thought of losing the family home of 30 odd years, all the friends and neighbours who had supported her through her whole life in that area were to be gone.
Why, well because her husband died and the Conservatives and the Lib Dems had decided her home was of fk all use to her any more, if she wanted to stay she had to pay over the odds of her ability of income.
Long story short....... the boy's stayed and moved their wife/partners in......it was the only way to avoid their mother from being kicked out the family home.
To all you that voted Tory..........this is what you did.
I assume that's a council house thing ?

This is life today mate. People trying to spin whats been said to suit their ideas. I think a pole would be good to see what the forum thinks about both sides of this debate. My views etc are based on what i hear on TV. I don't believe everything but when the protests where on the media proved they where protesting. I base my views on that. I stay home as much as possible due to being High risk. But i am alone and sometimes have no option but to go out. I just hurry up and get home i do not stop to chat etc.

If you are part of a 'vulnerable to covid' group for whatever reason, take extra care to look after yourself. If you are deficient in any vitamins, take those vitamins. If you do have to go out, keep some distance from other people where possible and wear a mask. If you have symptoms, stay home and get tested.

It really isn't that complicated is it?

There isn't anything to debate as far as I'm concerned, you are either doing what you can to protect yourself and others... or you aren't.

Whilst I broadly agree. Have you heard of Vit D helping. You can't take the vitamins you need, if you don't know you should take them. And, still, they are no been given that advice. Yet it costs penny's for a weeks worth of 1000 IU Vit D. Why isn't it being handed out or prescribed, automatically?

why do we assume the spike is caused by not following lockdown. One area is low income and many work for temp agency's. A large number, of them, have been sending people all over the city. And often they have to work with no PPE and aren't able to socially distance?
But, ultimately it's bound to be a mix of the two,I feel.

Yes, although they did have a mortgage on it, council bought it back and rented it to them.
Ok. Bit of an outdated practice, bedroom tax, and although I hate councils I can understand them wanting 3 people in a 3 bedroom house if there's a council house shortage.

Problem with that is many specially adapted house remain empty. So it's counter productive. But it does encourage councils to then sell the house to the private market. In reality reducing the available housing. That not a terribly bright or economic way of doing things. But it does allow a tiny number to make a large profit. Whilst the council is still left to pick up the bits.

All schools in Leicester to close 3pm tomorrow. All shielding to be reinstated. Nonessential shops to close or remain closed. Initially for two weeks.

Nothing about Vit D helping with covid specifically but I would say that anyone who is deficient should be taking it ..... actually if you are deficient in any vitamins you should be taking them. I'm not suggesting it's a cure for Covid in any way but I do think people's general good health is important when it comes to your body being able to fight off disease, obviously your body being deficient in anything isn't good. That's just general advice not covid19 specfic... and I'm not a doctor obviously. I don't think it needs handing out, my comment was really about people who know they have a deficiency but maybe don't always bother or don't worry about it too much.

yeah, you can only do what you are able to do. I'm not saying these large protest gatherings are the cause of anything. Even if not, I think they are an unnecessary risk that should be avoided maybe.

My mate recently bought his council house for less than half it's market value if I remember correctly. Bit stupid of the councils I think.
I've never thought the council's should sell the houses off and then have to moan at central government that they need more building. Doesn't seem right to me. Council houses should be for people who can't afford mortgages etc.
There's probably some reason behind it but I just disagree.
