Original or Clone?

Watch out for crap clones but as some have said, if you get a clone or two and you paticularly like one you could consider getting the original. Personally I won't buy clones where they have stolen the logo and name, but thats just me; I don't like putting money in the pocket of theiving counterfeiters.

Follow the threads on here to find the better clones, speak to the "clone/fasttech" gurus (you should know who they are lol). Just remember its your money, if you want to buy all originals then go for it, plenty of youtube reviews from todd and others to get an idea before you part with the cash.

To add some other thoughts to the discussion, I like to support the people who spend the time to design and create something original and special. Just as I do buy supporting local markets, artists, bands etc.

I prefer not to support mass produced copies made by large companies who just jump on the bandwagon to make profit. By that I mean the direct 1:1 copies which are identical in everyway except in quality. And when I say quality, I'm thinking longevity. I think the cheaper metals used may not stand the test of time, but as these clones are relatively new, only time will tell.

For me it's the same with music. I prefer to go see local bands who sweat when they play because they put so much into it! Not mass produced groups who only sweat when they lip-synch issues prove they were miming.

I'm not saying there is a right or wrong, personal choice is exactly that, personal!

I just wanted to put forth some support for small artisan vaping suppliers who try to make the vaping world more interesting, unique and exciting.

No 1 on this forum wld shoot u 4 have'n an opinion.
Honestly I totally understand wat ur say'n.
If I cld I wld only buy originals but it's not possible as with a lot of vapers, so clones give ppl the chance 2 own mods without Break'n the bank (or Break'n into a bank)

Does "fake", fall into this category somewhere. As in I see it as.

Original - is what it say's

Clone - An "exact" copy of the original, as far as possible. By a different maker.

Fake - A copy of the original, being sold as an original.

And while I do buy original when funds allow. I like others now choose the clone first, to try them out. I have done the genuine first, only to find I didn't like it and into the bottom of the draw it went.
When I do step up from the clone, because it was cheap, it's easier for me to punt it to a buddy cheap.

My opinion is,for some types of devices(battery tubes mainly)there is no way that a lone producer can make a profit on their designs unless they charge a mint for it,but considering that most are just a tube of metal with a 510 thread one end & a switch elsewhere, the high prices are the reward to the etcher. So,if you're into art/tattoo's etc then they might appeal,if like me you consider Banksy as nothing more than a graffiti artist(vandal by any other name)then also there are only so many ways you can bend a metal tube so that it still works, then originals are little else but "I paid lots for this which means it IS way better than yours" when in reality, they do the job required(hold a battery)I don't suffer from OCD either, which means I couldn't give a pigs burp if there's a gap between the atty & mod,or there's gaps between each section of the mod itself.I appreciate that someone has taken the time in creating a design in metal etching, but before it has been cloned by Asia there's a strong chance that the original designer has recovered their investment already plus a tidy profit, and if they're so pissed at the clones of their design appearing, then why do they only ever produce such limited numbers of them, why not make approaches to Asian manufacturers to mass produce the original?

If I could afford to buy a brand new car every week,I wouldn't as the car I own does the same job.If I could afford to buy a 250 MPH supercar,I wouldn't as the speed limit in the UK is maximum 70 MPH which my present car can achieve. If I could afford to move house,I wouldn't as I like where I am(mostly)If I could afford an original mod,I still wouldn't as my clone does the job.

As for longevity of an original compared to a clone, they are metal tubes so I find it hard to imagine what difference would exist. If I lost an original,I'd be mighty pissed off,if I lost a £10 clone,so what.I'd still be pissed off but thankful that it wasn't the original.

When it becomes atomizers though, things change. The clones are often mentioned here as having shit 510's/short-circuits/brass in places they shouldn't/bits missing entirely that make the device unusable(I know Mawsley had a mech that was missing a few pieces, but in the main they're okay)etc,so for atomizers it is imperative that before you shell out cash & die of old age waiting for the slow-boat from China, you research all you can about what problems people have had/having.

Another point not much discussed is that clones, as well as iphones and levi's etc are manufactured by people working long hours with no rights for fuck all in Dickensian conditions including children (student interns) pressed from schools.

Clones can be quite expensive really :-/

ElsaBubs would be able to to discuss the benefits of the original so i am sure he will be along in a bit to give us more input.

well said, I've given up from months of ranting. But the first point hits the nail on the head for me, I support ppl that spend the time into designing and making the goods, especially if they are hand turned :)

Probably an emotive subject this one, but as I expand into rebuildables I find myself torn between the two.

Do I save for the original?, or do I go for a clone?, which, by all accounts, is as good as the original.

Having invested in a couple of original tanks I'm skint, but have I just bought into a label? Or am I supporting a manufacturer

Would love to to hear your thoughts.

Thanks

Hey guys, I was not meaning to restart the clone wars, just trying to answer the part of the OPs question "Or am I supporting a manufacturer"

And the quality statement has come from years of buying cheap and buying twice.

For example, years of buying waterproof motorbike jackets that are only water proof for a few months. Finally bought a full set of Rukka waterproofs for Andy (expensive!) and three years later, daily work commute all year, they are still fully waterproof!!

Also, buying cheap frying pans and quickly finding the base warps so the heat distribution is affected and you get areas that burn faster!

Sorry, going off topic myself there,!!
