Pfizer given protection from legal action by UK government

Pfizer has been granted legal protection by the UK government.

The government has granted Covid-19 manufacturer Pfizer a legal indemnity protecting it from being sued, enabling its coronavirus vaccine to be rolled out across the country as early as next week.

The Department of Health and Social Care has confirmed the company has been given an indemnity protecting it from legal action as a result of any problems with the vaccine, the Independent reported.

The Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine was approved for use in the UK, with roll out planned for early next week, becoming the first Western country to approve a vaccine.

NHS staff providing the vaccine, as well as manufacturers of the drug, are also protected.

In a press conference with journalists on Wednesday, Ben Osborn, Pfizer’s UK managing director, refused to explain why the company needed an indemnity.

He said: “We’re not actually disclosing any of the details around any of the aspects of that agreement and specifically around the liability clauses.”

Around 50 hospital hubs around England will start offering the Pfizer vaccine to patients and staff in care homes from next week.

The NHS will also start sending letters out next week inviting vulnerable members of the population to go and get a vaccine from a designated hospital.

The Pfizer/Biontech vaccine, which comes in packs of 975 doses, will first be given to the most vulnerable Brits, going down the generational chart.

Don't fret, the Government is prepared to offer up to £120,000 if you suffer a severe reaction
(what is deemed a "severe" reaction is open to debate perhaps)

But £120,000 is being offered to assure people in the event of a severe reaction
(no - not a bribe), of taxpayers money I guess
Not uncommon perhaps, but they don't want people to worry (or talk about it too much)

If anything has ever made me want a vaccine less, this has done it.

Do we know anymore about how long this lasts for yet?

The legal indemnity or the vaccine itself ???

think the answer to both is NOPE
my own gut feeling...
vaccine - a few months perhaps, but still unknown
legal protection - yeah yonks/longer than any test subject lifespan

it’s been the case since 1979 and includes all of the following vaccines. it’s not new or specific to this current one.

also, it will apply to all covid-19 vaccines that exist or im the future. it’s not specific to the pfizer ones.

I'm thinking if taking it how long can we expect it to last for.
If it's estimated at six months at least thats a start but if it's only a couple of months we could be falling for a false sense of security so there is a genuine need to know at least a ball park figure.

common with all sorts of things anything injected with a needle can cause a reaction I have a flu jab and all sorts of other jabs like the hep b jab and alike every year, I've had 2 reactions one was too the swine flu one and one was too the flu jab 2 years ago the reactions knocked the shite out of me and made me ill for a couple of weeks but I would still have the jabs
