RBA vs pre-built - Please explain

Does that coil allow you to use mesh in a normal non-mesh RTA?
yes, as long as the notch coil can fit in the tank’s deck. @Crispycritters mentioned them being 4mm but i’m sure i had some 3 or even 2.5mm ones before. have a look about. notch coils. they are from before they called this stuff mesh, and when real mesh was used for wicks.

One other little tip is that on Vape Club a lot of their 10 ft reels of Coilology wire are only 99p so you can afford playing to your hearts content to figure out what kind of build you enjoy the most without it being too costly swapping and trying out different builds.

[EDIT] Scrap that. I just looked on their site and it looks like they're intending to discontinue selling RBA coils. They only have fused clapton wire left at £2.99 a reel.

Don't listen to those touting complex wire, absolutely not needed. I used to make my own until I was shown the light of flatwire, has all the same surface area of complex coils without the ramp up time, saving your batteries.

It certainly ramps up fast. But, compared to most complex wires, the flavour isn't as good. I've been using Brochrome in dual coil RDAs to use on single 18650 mechs because the fast ramp up time gives the batteries an easier life, but with higher Amp 21700s where I'm not as concerned about pushing the batteries I stick with complex coils because the flavour is better.

But - I think what may have gone by you is - those recommending a simple spool of round-wire are probably the MTL vapers. And he's not buying an MTL tank. Round wire in any DL Steamcrave tank definitely ISN'T what he should be using. Complex coils or Flatwire will work well - he'll be pissing in the wind trying to make decent coils for a DL Steamcrave tank with a spool of Kanthal round-wire.

24AWG Brochrome, 5-6 wraps depending how far it has to bridge, usually comes in around 0.16-0.18

With my spaced wraps I don't think complex wire makes much difference except that the wire is fatter and therefore has greater surface area which I think helps produce more vapour. It slightly slows down the ramp up time but it's still decent enough.

I'm definitely a lot happier with both the flavour quality and also how much longer the quality lasts with this Ni80 wire compared to the SS316 wire I tried. Don't know whether it was because the SS was thinner or because of the different type of metal.

I`ve read before about the brochrome flatwire and have intended trying it in my single cell semi mech squonkers but the only source I can find is stealthvape and it would be a bloody expensive experiment it I didn`t take to it. Could ribbon wire be used instead?

No bud,

Ribbon wire is way too thin. Flatwire has the same mass as comparative gauge wire i.e. 24ga - ribbon wire is very, very thin and will sag like a weak spring.

Edit - I was typing when John replied. Oops.
