RBA vs pre-built - Please explain

Oh, also. Is there anything special about the cotton for wicking or is it just literally 100% cotton? Is it the way it's spun that makes it suitable for vaping? Is there any difference between cotton you buy in a bag from Morrisons for wiping your face etc and something like Cotton bacon (I hear that's one of the best?)?
Some of the cottons intended for cosmetics use are bleached so not suitable for vaping, organic cotton is I believe the you want, for years I used rayon that was intended for use with plaster of paris to support broken limbs, I found it handy in atties with raised coils, it`s a bit stiffer than cotton.

Personally, I prefer sticking to the cotton that's specifically made for vaping as I feel more confident that it'll give me a better quality vape and the stuff is so cheap I don't see the point of trying to shave a matter of pennies off the cost. One £5 bag of vape cotton will last you for months. The type of cotton you choose will depend on the coils you use and personal preference. For mesh I think the most popular choice seems to be Wotofo whereas in my own setup I use Vapefly Firebolt Shoelace cotton.

When I first began using rebuildables I looked around online to find which RTA was getting the attention as the one that was seen as the best for flavour production and at that time the flavour of the month was the Dovpo Blotto. Everyone told me don't start with that because it was too difficult and recommended I start with something with an easier build deck. I ignored that because I felt I could learn it easily enough by reading up and watching a couple of decent build videos. It took me 2 or 3 goes to start getting the hang of it but I'm still vaping the same tanks as I'm typing this.

What I mean is you don't have to be Einstein to build a deck and it'll take you no time at all to learn. It's just a matter of looking around and seeing what other people think works well and then doing a bit of experimenting of your own to find out what works best for you.

One of the best tips I got in the early days was bp mods lazy cotton. I was having trouble judging how much Cotton to fill the coil with. The muji pads are great but you have to cut off how much you want. And if you don't know how much you want it's a lot of trial and error.

Lazy cotton is a pot of cotton already sized to 2.5mm or 3mm (depending what you want to build) so you just pull it out, cut a length and thread it through the coil of the same size. Really helped me suss it out as I was getting nowhere for a week or so.

I am mainly Mesh as are quite a few on here. My opinions will probably go against what other use and prefer when using Mesh, Mesh i use most regularly is Wotofo, only because i bought a shitload a while back. Nexmesh/ofrf and Steam Crave are next on my list, i also like Vapefly but not the SS 316L as it's way too delicate, i use it but never try pulling a Cotton Lace through it as the Cotton just rips the Mesh apart. Fit one side of your curved mesh strip, then put the cotton under then fit the 2nd Side. Cutting the Cotton i cut it to the Washer on the build deck or level with the deck then i cut from the Top nearest the Deck Edge and down towards the bottom of the coil. Most cut from coil down to juice well. Wendy Vapes also does it my way or i do it hers, never had a dry hit doing it the way i do, Clapton Mesh though i don't use a lot i do the same as the Vapefly SS Mesh as it's also delicate. I have used loads of different cotton but have now settled with Steam Crave as my Favourite and Muji when i have no Steam Crave.

i’m not sure any of it is specifically made for vaping. what makes you think it is?
If it's "specifically made for vaping" it normally means that the price has been jacked up specifically for vapers. [emoji6][emoji6] There's always an alternative.

aye, but also, cotton is one of the most traded commodities on earth. every type of cotton you can imagine already exists. i’m sure it was discovered that one of the well known ones is actually repackaged dental cotton, might be a thread on here from years back.

Oh look! Our resident troll is off again.

:notrollfeed::notrollfeed::notrollfeed::notrollfeed::notrollfeed:

it was a genuine question. i spent a fiver on a bag of organic japanese labo cotton in 2017 and i’m still using it now. but you know what they say about a fool and his money :)

The first two packs of cotton I pulled out of my stash

Cotton Bacon Prime - by WICK AND VAPE. OK not conclusive but a really big clue.

Pack no 2, Vapefly Firebolt Cotton. Again Vapefly is a bit of a clue but not absolutely conclusive. But if you look at the back of the pack you will read that it is "Specifically formulated for vaping" - and under features the first thing you will read is "Re-wick your coils in seconds"

I get it, it's Sunday and things are a bit quiet, but surely you already have Troll Badge?

nothing troll about it, it is a valid subject to discuss.

i wouldn’t have had you down as somebody that believes everything that is printed on the back of a wee chinese package, but if you think these companies have labs staffed with scientists discovering new types of cotton wool specifically for use in vape tanks, then fair enough :)
